Recently I have been experiencing some problems with IMON. Several times in the last month when I checked IMON had shut down by itself. Also, It seems to be causing problems with broken DSL connections. I can of course rectify this by manually restarting IMON and the computer and by clicking on repair in IMON -Setup- Miscellaneous. But I wonder why it is shutting down in the first place?
As far as the problems with updates are concerned, I have noticed just today that I was notified of an update to sig. 1.1819 at least five times. However, the log shows only one update to that sig. number. See below. (Also, I am assuming that "Statistical information has been sent to Eset has to do with Threat Sense?) The error connecting to server ** is nothing new and seems to be a ongoing problem for Eset.

    Please take the following steps:

    1. Download a fresh copy of NOD32 from HERE and SAVE it to your DESKTOP.

For help with entering your Username and Password please see HERE

    2. Uninstall your current version.

    3. REBOOT your Computer.

    4. Remove the Eset Folder from C Drive> Program Files.

    5. Install the FRESH copy of Nod32 that you downloaded above using “Typical Settings”.

    6. Check your settings against the following Nod32 Tutorial

Let us know how you go...

    Cheers :D

I am having the same problem of finding IMON not enabled, yet I never disabled it. :ouch:
This system has only one user and no LAN connection. My broadband access is via a cable modem (shared domain), but NO ONE should be able to modify settings of my virus checker.

I remember some viruses that disabled the virus checker for their own purposes and it worries me to find mine off. A thorough scan w/current database shows no threats, but Norton used to have an option to boot off their CD and run a dos based check from there to find boot infecting viruses. Anyone know if that can this be done with the NOD32 CD? :doubt:

What exactly is the WINSOCK FIX TOOL? I know what Winsock is, but don't remember a fix tool? I am still running (for a good reason) W98SE w/IE6SP1.

WOW, while I was editing this post someone named Blackspear (who is that? Global moderator means NOD32 staff? ) posted instructions to download a new copy of NOD32, etc.. A lot of slightly risky stuff to do unless... Is this in fact a known problem with the version of NOD32 jayt has and so update is a definite fix? Or is this a "lets be sure he is running the latest version first" solution? I will now paste my NOD32info here. Blackspear, could you please confirm that I should do the same thing as jayt(or not). :doubt:

Well, the instructions at the page your link leads to refer to Winsock XP Fix. As noted twice in my posting, I am running W98SE. I am not familiar with an equivilent tool for W98, including in the RESOURCE KIT which I have and use. There may be one, but I don't find it and definetly not "Winsock XP Fix".

Your post was specific about the order of repairs, first Winsock, then IMON.

There are alternate registry cleanups but I hate to edit the registry unless I am 100% certain that the edit is tested on MY OS.

Sooo.. I have done nothing yet. I am grateful for your attention, sorry to beg for yet more, but what do you recomend now?

This one works for Windows 98. After running this tool, then repair IMON.

Let us know how you go...

    Blackspear, thank you.
I have run the freeware Winsock Fix tool from your link after backing up the reg, etc.. to floppy. The first boot after running it I got an error in NOD32kui as follows:
NOD32KUI caused an invalid page fault in
    module NOD32KUI.EXE at 0197:00412927.
    Registers:
    EAX=00000000 CS=0197 EIP=00412927 EFLGS=00010202

    Bytes at CS:EIP:

    Stack dump:
    00000070 0071cacc 00000001 00000007 00746e28 00407caa 00000001 00000000 bff54ea5 0071cacc bff55836 00000000 00000000 00000000 0071c500 0043ebdb

After an additional shutdown and reboot, no more occurances. Is there cause for concern about this?

Then I repaired IMON as shown on post40 per your link which proceeded without obvious problems.
So I assume this has a good chance of fixing my corrupted regkeys. My next question is, how did they become corrupted? I gather using the free spyware program on the IE-yahoo toolbar was a mistake? o_O Should I buy a better spyware remover? Any recomendations? Or am I looking in the wrong place for the cause of this? It seems prudent to avoid repeats for the 6 months or so that I must continue to maintain a W98 platform.
One thing I do that I know is risky is to sometimes manually switch off my network connection (a physically manual A/B switch w/empty B connector). I suppose the switch could send bounces into the e-net port, but this would be the first manifestation of trouble in years, if it is a cause.

Anyway, I'll report in a week or two about results, if IMON still self disables.

Also, I found a huge file NOD32.000 on my drive, dated just yesterday at about the time I was on this forum or downloading WinsockFix. What is that about? I gave permaission for virus database updates, but to have modules installed without reporting it to me is disconcerting. :ouch: The maual with my NOD32 is tiny. Is there a forum or web pages that give detailed info on such things as operation, updates, etc..? I am becoming concerned and like to have reference available to ensure proper setup, know what to expect from the software. I may not want to continue to use it on other systems if I am not sure of it's good behaivior.

OOPS.. one more question. How do I print just one or more posts on this forum? I don't want to print the whole page. I tried the help but can not find the answer to this. Thanks.

Sorry for verbose postings... a character flaw I can't seem to shake.

    You are welcome.

Not at this point in time. Just keep an eye on it…

Installing another program that use the Winsock layer can easily do this.

I use 2 programs, NOD32 and Online Armor (plus a firewall), and that’s it. This combination provides very good protection indeed.

    Try THIS thread.

How about a copy and post into MS Word.

    Cheers :D

    Thanks for all.
Copy and paste into MSWord will work of course, but it is a bit cumbersome after 6 or 8 times. I guess I should slip this function onto the thread I think saw of wishlist for improvements (or was that NOD32 improvements?). I am getting detailed instructions followed to several links/threads etc.. and it is always nice to have hard copy instructions to follow(can't fix winsock if you are using it to view step by step I suspect), anotate and keep as a record of the changes made to your system for t-shooting after or repeating the fix some time in the future. Idealy, you could specify 1 or more posts on a thread to dump to printer. This is such an awesome interface otherwise, what I've seen of it so far!
