Hey, how about this: "interchangeable skins"? That way, the user could decide if they want a blue interface and icon, a green interface and icon, or a red, etc.?

Of course, this has little to nothing to do with the performance of NOD, so I'm sure it wouldn't be a "high priority" (and understandably so).....:p

Regarding the current NOD32 motif and the pending future version:

My first visual impression of the current NOD32 was "wow, this looks different!" which I admit is a superficial way to look at anything. But it's human instinct, and you can't get around it. First impressions always count.

In a short time I have become very fond of the look. It reinforces everything I like about this program: small footprint, fast, really effective, lots of user control options.

--it says: "Here are people who are not afraid to be different"

--it's a little retro-looking, but I liked this impression because it evokes a time when software developers were dedicated to quality in performance (tight coding, fast, reliable, etc). E.G., the REAL Peter Norton, the programmer who liked assembler and tight code, not Symantec's fluffer interpretation.

-the motif of "NOD32" showing up 'in the clear' amongst all the shaded green blocks with random alphanumerics (which seem on the verge of coalescing into a picture if I could just step far enough back from my monitor) - strikes me as clever, and I LIKE clever. Not just smart, but clever with some panache. I want clever people coding my security software.

--the dual-window format: I wasn't sure at first, but once my feet were wet, I appreciated how this works with the program. It's different, but it is effective; I really like it now.

So I could go on about this, but I've made my point: Don't slick this thing up to the point where it loses its' personality and starts to look like everything else (your competition).

You might offer options for appearance, but here is one vote for retaining at least an option for keeping the current motif, or a close (perhaps an even more clever) approximation of it. The 'classic' option, if nothing else.

Just my small impressions after a short week with your program. On the other hand, so long as the program's effectiveness remains at it's current high-level, or better, you can make it pink with orange polka-dots and I won't care ... . :D

And just so it doesn't interfere with small feetprints ... .

    -Regards. DB2

PS- and yeah, avoid 'McAfee Red' at any cost. Bad association.

i shouldnt have said color scheme when i meant skin, but in BD, the skins mostly changes the color.

usually a skin would imply that the interface changes a bit, like the skins for avast.

We have just had NOD on trial for a month - and have been impressed - so have swapped antivirus products from SAV to NOD.

Although we are happy with the product - we would like to see these enchancements...

    1) In the RAC - we would like in the Clients tab a column detailing the username of the last user that has logged onto the client. This makes it easier to distinguish who uses that PC instread of just the Client PC Name.

    2) We would like the RAC to update in realtime. It seems a infection could be found on a PC and yet the console would not update for 5 minutes.

    3) We like the fact that clients can check for updates every hour - but we would like clients to check for updates at the same time (+/- 2 mins or whatever). At the moment - we have PCs looking at the mirror server every hour - but this time is set from the time the PC was logged onto the network. So if I logged on at 8.27am - the system would check at 9.27am, 10.27am etc. This makes the update of definitions staggered across the clients in the company and there can be a big time difference in definitions being pushed across the network. We would like the option to set clients to update on log on - and then every hour on the hour (9.00am, 10.00am, 11.00am).

    4) The ability of AMON to delete files if cleaning fails.

    5) Better documentation. There are a few settings that I don't understand what they do and can't find anything in the documentation (scan alternate NTFS Streams for example)

    6) Better notification. The notifications we get via SMTP are fine - but they don't have enough detail. As an example - a computer today had a minor spyware threat discovered and I recieved an email to tell me. The email didn't tell me what NOD had tried to do with the file though. Had it tried to clean the file? Did the clean succeed? Etc etc.

    7) This might be more of a question than a improvement but - If we had users that ran NOD and they accessed that network over a WAN (ie they were not all in the same palce, city, country) and a user got an infection - how would I be able to sort the problem on that machine from my desk here? It would be a case of a phone call and tell the user what to do over the phone. I know SAV had a central quarentine program that meant if PCs had an alert the guys in IS could clean/delete the file from the central quarentine instead of having to be at the infected PC.

If I have made points that have been made before then sorry ;)

    Anyway thats my 2p worth!

for the on-demand scanner, there should be an option to not list locked files. I just want to see infected files.

I searched through this thread and it's probably here, but I am unable find a suggestion to add a button to the In-Depth scan alert window to Ignore found threats during subsequent scans that are a non-issue; i.e.,Win32/Tool.EvID4226 Yes, I know the patch is a possible way to be compromised, but I'd like it to be ignored in future manual scans.

I'd like to suggest that any time a connection failure occurs, either due to dns failure, server offline, internet connection being flaky - or whatever - that nod32 reports the next SUCCESSFUL connection to the update server, whether an update is available or not... so that after a failed connection, the next successful connection is noted.

It might also be an idea that if a server is unavailable, nod32 logs report "trying next server..." and then the status of that connection too.

This might help nod32 owners understand that the failures noted in the logs are followed by successful connections - and hopefully this would mean less "update error" threads in the support forums, and to the support mailboxes.

Agreed with the above post, there's too much "buzz" around this server connection errors.
I do like the log is telling us everything that is happening, but if you are planning on doing a version that can switch between advanced/regular mode, then only advanced should get all error messages..

A proper "Quit" function that shuts down all modules and the kernel service.

For those times when a clean install of other software or an uninstall of NOD itself is required it's currently a pain to shut it all down. Shouldn't be this hard.

Consider an additional detection group (or as an extension to PDA?) for software that can only have an illegal purposes eg. keygen, crack etc.

I relise the reason they are not detected now is because they are not a virus/malware etc. else they would already be detected.

As long as its available as a option for checking for these things yes.
This was the main reason i changed from NAV to nod32 as even when these options were unchecked in norton settings, it decides off its own back to quarantine these items on every scan.

Handy programs like killbox and pskill are sometimes your only way in defeating some of these ever increasingly clever adware's that run as a .dll , and these tools being thrown into quarantine on every scan is really annoying.

I would like to see more options for ThreatSense.NET as currently its no good with LAN installs, as we don't allow each individual client to go out through our firewall.

What would be nice is to have clients send their information to the update server then the update server sends the information on to Eset.

I don't know if this has been posted here but I think that will be a very goog idea that Eset send an answer to people who sent virus samples or virus detected by other antivirus.
At least only "thank you" or "thank you no virus detected" or "thank you a new virus has found" or something like that.
    Igor do it.

I've just come into this thread & don't have time to read all of it, but I agree with the posts I did read, NO firewall please.
I already have an excellent one, Agnitum Outpost.

As said many times , it is planned that ESET will have two versions :

    • NOD32 stand-alone programs
    • ESET Security Suit

As we know , probably the Suit only will have a firewall + spam filter + more . You will be able to keep the stand alone anti-threat system and use any firewall you want :thumb:

I'd like to suggest that the "pop-up" for username and password actually remember them, just the same as entering them in the control center - and that techs who enter a temporary username and password for temporary update facility take the time to change or remove the temporary using the control center.

The amount of support calls generated from clients saying their nod32 forgot their password because they entered it into the popup and not the control center is completely out of control. This facility benefits no-one that buys the product directly and confuses the heck out of many of them.

Didn't go through the entire thread (too long), but wondering if:

    - Could be improved the context menu when wishing to scan folders or files.

    - Enable a rescue disk option like KAV6. That's a KILLER option. Use BartPE and merge NOD files into it and enable a bootable CD capable of scanning offline disks NTFS, FAT, FAt32 you name it.....POWER!

Sometimes there's no other way than unplugging an infected disk and plug it into another machin for a deep scan. Annoying.

With a bootable rescue disk, it's a snap.

    Go Eset!

a file scanning bar like the one in bitdefender that you can also drag files in to scan them. what do ya think?
of course you can hide it.
