    2) Attempted to restore to original location (network drive)

    3) Error message appears for all files in directory. Ignore simply creates emply file in original location (0 bytes).

Failed to restore file or folder 'CONFIG.SYS'.

If you are running Home version you may not be able to do that. AFAIK, Home works only on local drives on the machine it is running on.

I'm not betting my life on this so await some confirming or denying responses.

Yes, you can back up a local drive to a networked drive and restore it. You tried to backup a network drive to a local drive and restore it back to the network.

I understand what you are saying...but why the heck allow the backup of the net drive if you are not going to allow the ability to restore to original location ?

    Hello hazmat,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please note that it is possible to backup and restore to and from networked drive with Acronis True Image 9.0 Home. The only restriction is that you can create only file-based backup of the networked (mapped) drive. Therefore, we can not guarantee that you will be able to restore your operating system to a working state by restoring the file-based backup of a system partition. Please also have a look at this previous thread.

Most likely the reason of the error you have received is that you do not have enough permissions to write to the networked folder.

If the issue persists, please explain your step-by-step actions which you took that led you to this error. Please also send us a screen shot of the error, if possible. Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

Also, if you would like to backup and restore networked computers remotely I would recommend that you use Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation. With Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation you will be able to restore networed system to the wokring state via network.

    Thank you.

How about trying to backup only a data folder on the network drive and then restore that. It looks like you were starting the backup in the root directory of the network drive and that might have been part of the problem.

Yes, network drive can be use as a STORAGE device with ATI 9.0 Home.

You can backup the networked drive only in files/folders mode, not as a local hard drive with MBR and stuff. ATI 9.0 Home cannot do that.

You need at least ATI 9.1 Workstation to backup and restore the networked drive and if you want this drive be Bootable after all.

    Kento.
