Interesting he says "no other security vendor comes close to 200 million"

Kaspersky has 300 million users worldwide.

    Just an observation.

According to this report it appears that M$ leads Avast.

The OPSWAT number are their own estimations based on a limited number of users, and they are not correct.

Kaspersky has a higher userbase based on the same assumptions made by avast of course.

But what interests me is how do we know how many uninstalls there have been?

  7. Link for number of Kapersky users? I think even counting Yandex as installed base it is hard to believe they have more than Avast or Microsoft.

Especially in the case of avast, judging from the feedback on their forum.

Any idea of the percentages.....free users, paid users, and businesses? Avast and Kaspersky still seem like David and Goliath to me but I could be wrong...I like them both, certainly both in my top five favorites.:thumb:

There's no standardized methodology to measure "number of users", but in case of Avast, these are really "actively protected devices in the last 30 days".

That is, the statement says that Avast was running on 200 million unique devices in the last 30 days.

AFAIK AVG uses a similar metric (and they claim 155 million users).

The Kaspersky data, I'm suspecting, use a different methodology -- such as measuring the number of all mailboxes protected (Kaspersky protects some of the publicly available freemail/webmail services - so these are significant numbers), the number of user accounts on each protected PC, the number of users behind a web gateway protected by the Kaspersky products etc...

    Cheers

Assumption? You do realize that avast! team has all the statistical data there on their hands and it's WAY more accurate than any other number? If they say they have 200 million users, they have that many.

Not sure where you got 300 million users for Kaspersky though, seems like a very unlikely number...

How many of them are using the Free version? That would be an interesting data.

Without going into too much detail, the conversion rates (I mean conversions from free to paid) vary vastly country by country. In some countries, it is over 10% but the worldwide average is below 5%.

Qihoo's 450 million users is plausible. It's the "worldwide" that may be misleading, though not technically incorrect. Most of Qihoo's users are inside China.

Plausible, but highly skewed number, because of their initial focus on Chinese users and we all know Chinese are a massive nation. So getting few extra abroad isn't exactly a difficult task if you already have so many users at home.

And why exactly would the kaspersky figures be any less credible than the avast ones?

Why would i assume that the avast figures are accurate and discredit the kaspersky ones?

You cannot be 100% accurate with these sort of figures.A rough estimation at most.

Of course the figures for uninstalls are not being taken into account.

In case of Avast, they absolutely are. As I said above, these are active devices, not the number of installs.

Does Kaspersky state anywhere how many users they have?
