Not good as it has no behaviour blocker. Detection rate wise (for on-demand scanning), about the same as Norton as it uses the same engine.

Since the acquisition by Symantec, this is no surprise.
    Honestly, I don't think it's a big loss either.
The Firewall has been great at some point, but this is now the past.

What i miss the most is former Cyberhawk (PCTools ThreatFire). It was one of the better behavior blockers i've ever used. And it was free and worked along with any existing AV. So i never had to ditch something in favor of something else. But ever since they stopped regularly updating it, i had to let it go. And now it's no more. I still remember the first days when Cyberhawk guys came around here. It was really great. To bad they all got absorbed into the big machinery...

I notice spyware doctor is a payware now.I used this quite a lot a couple of years ago and was a decent program.

Why turn the freeware into a payware.o_O

Mamutu is still there, but it's not free.

As part of Symantec’s commitment to your online protection, we are streamlining our product range to provide fewer, better solutions for our customers. Symantec will retire the PC Tools Security portfolio on May 18, 2013, which means PC Tools Internet Security, Spyware Doctor and Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus will not be available for sale or renewal from this date.

Sad news. Symantec bought PC Tools, now they killed it!

Well, that's one way to kill your competition, buy them out and close down the product line.

Was PC Tools really a dangerous competitor to Symantec?
    I really don't think so.

Even if PC Tools weren't, they'll never be now. Will they?

Well, that's why they could acquire it. Symantec acquired Comodo? Impossible in their current state I'm afraid.
