I have a similar situation that I have noticed with this latest version. I use Panda Cloud AV Pro and the issue happens with the firewall portion and some of the AV settings. I have noticed AV settings reverting to default much like you report with some of your settings. The strange thing I am having with the firewall is that everything in shadow mode requires its own firewall rule. I basically end up with double the amount of rules, one for each app that connects in shadow mode in addition to the normal standard rules that are created outside shadow mode. Both rules for each connecting app appear both in and out of shadow mode. I had not had this appear before.

I also now have an external hard drive where with previous versions I could enter shadow mode but now with this latest release it will not go into shadow mode.

Thanks Kent (puff-m-d), yes, that sounds very similar to my experience, I've contacted Tony, outlining the problem.
He wrote to me this morning, so he is available at the moment.

    best wishes

    Thanks Patrick,

I am new to upgrading SD so I have a question in regards to upgrades. Is the only way to upgrade to do an uninstall and then reinstall? If this is the case, is there a way to save your settings? I ask this because the latest install package would not run for me unless I uninstalled the previous version first, and I did lose all of my settings like registration, exclusions, etc.

I think in earlier versions you could just install "over the top" and maybe that is still the case?
I usually start from scratch...maybe you could just jot your settings down before a fresh install. There probably is some way of saving settings but I haven't used it...that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist though :)

If you have had problems with a version then I think a fresh installation of the new version is probably best then there is less chance of keeping your problem.

    UPDATE later same day
I remembered how to save the exclusion list
    Open up Shadow Defender
Go down to Exclusion List Tab/button
select the files you want to save
you will see the grey "Path" bar
to the right of it you will see two square buttons one containing > and the other <
Hover over them and you will see
The > button is "Save the Exclusion List to a file"
The < button is "Load the Exclusion List from a file"

    1) Save your existing Exclusion List to a file; 2) To avoid the need to re-register, copy the Security Certificate file c:\windows\diskpt.crt somewhere safe, from where you can copy it back again afterwards; 3) Uninstall old version; 4) Download new version; 5) Copy back Security Certificate file; 6) Reload Exclusion List from saved file.

I first reported this in the Panda Cloud forums over a year ago when beta testing Panda Cloud 1.9.1. It's caused by Panda Cloud resolving the path names of stored firewall rules in a different way when Shadow Mode is enabled. Although the issue was confirmed at the time, it has never been fixed.

Thanks for that info! Otherwise we would have thought it was all SD, but now we know it is just the part with the various settings of misc. apps reverting back to defaults.

So seeing this is a common firewall problem I can't help but ask whether I'm getting the protection that I expect to get from Shadow Defender or if changes that I thought were temporary might be permanent. I really hope not.

Edit: I just wanted to add that while I have had this quirk of the firewall I haven't experienced any other occasions when things in Shadow Mode change on my pc. I've just paid for this program recently so I'd be a bit upset if it wasn't working properly.

Yes that's the part that I am interested in...I still think that it's some sort of kernel drivers conflict...the apps are all kernel level driver stuff like firewalls, anti virus, etc...seems to go to default and ignore certain registry settings

Tony asked me to do a defrag and then re-install Shadow Defender 1.2.0.355 to test again

I'd already gone back to 1.1.0325

    so I uninstalled it

    did a defrag

    installed Shadow Defender 1.2.0.355 again

went into Shadow Mode and changed a few minor things

    re-booted

and this time (as yet) I have not had the problem with the dcom settings getting messed up or anything like that.

I've emailed Tony updating him and saying that I will keep 1.2.0.355 on and see what happens.

Had the same problem. After uninstalling previous version first all worked fine.

    MD5 of SD1.2.0.355_Setup(x64).exe: 87D58C68FACDBA726B5F0D5D90C7DA47
So you can compare if the installer is valid, regardless of the download site.

Hi Patrick, it is weird that a simple defrag seems to have sorted the problem.

Personally I have always used Rollback RX alongside SD; so I have avoided any such issues with firewall rules resetting themselves etc. I just restore my everyday snapshot that has everything configured properly, and any settings that may have inadvertently been undone by SD are reverted back to what they should be. RX and SD work great together.

For the love of God, man, use bold fonts next time or something! I completely missed that!

    Hi CM969
I don't know yet if it has as this problem was always fairly sporadic (if it's the same thing) I can't really see how a defrag would make any difference to get back to normal
I run fat32 that's why I don't use Rollback RX and I've had some major problems with that type of program in the past...you know...mangled drives and blue screens etc. I always have a backup these days...I have two identical drives and I clone using Casper 7 quite regularly, so hopefully the bad old days of pale faces and gazing woodenly at blue screens with incomprehensible messages are over. :)
It didn't cause me any big problem this time or anything I just re-set a few things
and I'm only testing it again because Tony asked me to. I'll give it a week or two and see how it goes. I've always been happy with 1.1.0.325, it serves my purposes very well and is very stable. I must have a go with Rollback one day though.

    best wishes

    Patrick

Installed on my SSD and runs fine (knock on wood).

A question... Does the RAM cache last long for you? Because i 've put 1GB as cache and in half hour it has already eaten 350MB... At this pace, it won't last long... Shame it can't be emptied...

It will extend automatically into disk cache if necessary (according to the Help).

it's still running perfectly with TRIM enabled here in Windows 8 Pro x64. With Version 1.2.0.346 I experienced issues as soon as I enabled TRIM but it's all gone now with 1.2.0.355. Go ahead and try it out finally ;)

    Hi Triple Helix
    Running v1.2.0.355 with M$ OS7 on a Crucial M4 250GB / 6Gbs and again M$ OS7 on a Corsair Force-GT 120GB / 6Gbs with trim now enabled on both.

Three Partitions on each, only OS C: is in SD Mode, with no exclusions.

Been In and out of SD Mode numerous times to test if any thing was or had gone amiss.

On my system it is solid. 10/10 :thumb:

After 4 hours, in which i encoded video, while browsing, downloading and playing a game, i have no problem to report. The exclusions seem to work too, as now that i rebooted, the savegame that i had excluded seems correctly saved (the game is where it should be). Also deleted files, used CCleaner (TRIM should trigger on deletes), nothing.

Nothing in the event viewer either. I m on SATA3 SSD with TRIM.
