    Hi Ibrad
He only made five post in all, the last in early 2009.

I think he might have stop posting because one particular member who seem to have particular dislike of [the best sand-boxing & virtualization program of its kind] Tony and his product.

I think one of the problems was a language problem, he doesn't speak much English.

(and I have his permission to post it)

    "Hi Patrick,

Yes, the next version will support both Windows 8 and SSD.

    Best regards,
    Tony"

People have asked me if there is any single identifying feature in Tony's communication or manner of speech and there is one small thing.

Tony often used "Best regards" at the end of his emails to me (which is not term that most people use) and for that reason, I now believe that this is the real "Tony."

I'm going to write Tony later today with a number of suggestions and that is one of the things on my list. :) Tony has posted (as you know) on this forum in the past but the language was a problem for him I think as he doesn't have much English and in this (at times) quick fire and technical forum environment where there is a fast post flow and response, "in depth" answers and the speed of movement of posts might have presented him with a problem.

    Hi sdmod
I cannot agree with you more. :thumb:

Because if he [Tony] was to make a mistake there are some of would [will] jump on it, without taking into account that he as to translate most it not all questions, from English to Chinese and then translate back from Chinese to English the answers.

Which take time and can be mistaken for being ignored.

Add also as with any translation there can unfortunate misinterpretation [misunderstanding].

    Hi Dark Shadow
But as Ibrad said it would be #1273 nice to see Tony log in to his account here, and hoping he is [was] the only one that knows or knew the email address that he use to register here at Wilders [and still has it to use], if you understand what I mean.

I've passed your request to Tony to make a friendly appearance/statement here on the forum and pointed him towards "The unofficial Shadow Defender Support Thread" earlier today and I'm waiting for a reply. I've also suggested to Tony that we might have a formal/Official sticky Shadow Defender Forum/thread here on Wilders (with Wilders permission of course).

    best wishes

    Patrick (sdmod)

    Hi sdmod
Very many thanks to you for that. :thumb:

I would be great if Shadow Defender could get formal Forum here at Wilders Security Forums, because it would stop all the hassle that the old SD forums had, [as you know more then most].

    With kind regards

I'm trying Shadow Defender for the first time. How much protection does it give in shadow mode? I understand if a virus makes changes to my system, it wont stick on reboot (because the changes are only happening in a virtual environment) but what about my changes?

Can I delete files in Shadow Mode and have them still exist on reboot? Like Rollback RX, in theory.. could I wipe out half my C drive including my windows folder and still have it back on reboot?

Would you consider Shadow Defender a sandbox, like Sandboxie for the whole system? Is that a good analogy?

It gives the best driver-level-based protection I have ever found in any virtualization application

You have the option of telling it what data you wish to exclude from "virtualizing." Just add the files/directories you want to be able to change to the exclusion list.

    Yes.

You could do that is Windows itself will allow you to delete the folders/files.

That is a good way of looking at things. After all, it prevents changes being made to the system, just Like Sandboxie. Many of us use both applications.

There is a reason why Shadow Defender is still used, years after its development has been, shall we say, paused. It''s just that good.

    I hope that helps.

The default action is to discard all changes on exit from Shadow Mode apart from any files and folders in the Exclusion List. At this time, there are no known malware bypasses. This includes protection against direct disk writes and attempts to modify the MBR.

There are three ways you can save changes: -
    1. Any files and folders added to the Exclusion List are permanently excluded from SD protection while in Shadow Mode. It is not recommended to exclude system files or folders but this can be useful to exclude files and folders within user profiles, especially if not using a separate partition to hold data.
    2. The Commit Now feature can be used to selectively save files and folders on demand while in Shadow Mode. This is a safer option than using the Exclusion List because permanent changes only occur when explicitly requested. You have to remember to do it though or changes you want to keep may be lost.
    3. There is an option to save all changes when exiting Shadow Mode. It could be occasionally useful to save an application installation that you were just trying out before deciding to keep. The downside is that all changes that have occurred since entering Shadow Mode will also be saved. Personally, I never use this option. If using SD to try out new software that doesn't require a reboot, I prefer to exit Shadow Mode then reinstall again if I decide to keep it.
Yes, that's the beauty of light virtualization. When I originally installed SD, I tried deleting a number of files and folders from the Program Files and Windows folders in Shadow Mode - after first making an image of course - and the entire system was restored perfectly after rebooting.

Yes, it's a very good analogy. Bear in mind though that Sandboxie also has policy restriction features. Whilst SD will protect the system while in Shadow Mode, it won't protect you against the damage that malware can do in terms of identity theft and data stealing while running. It is important to combine SD with some kind of anti-malware: anti-virus, HIPS, AE, BB, SRP, etc.

Thank you n8chavez and pegr for your answers. Wow.. I'm impressed.

Now I can visit all the porn sites I want and my wife will never know! - Just kidding LOL

This will be great for testing software or hiding the addresses/cookies/ etc of visited sites - like it never happened. I'm not telling the 18 year old in the house about this. LOL

Is there any way to hide the Shadow Mode icon on the top of the screen?

I just received this from Tony so it looks like the forum idea is not going to be possible

    "Hi Patrick,

    Thanks for your help.
When i see a full screen of English, My eyes will lost their focus.
and it will spend me a lot of time to read and understand them.
I like email because i can read them one by one, this will make me keep
    a cool head.

    Best regards,
    Tony"

This whole situation with Tony's comeback sounds a little bit crazy and it's hard to belive that this person who told us "I'm Tony" is real owner/author of SD. It looks like some "Jack-in-the-box" - "ta-daam...here I am"...but from where??...why after so long time?...what was happened in this 2,5 years??

It would be great if Tony is good and great if he is back! Even greater it would be if SD development would go on. So thx Patrick for all the effort and for keeping us informed. :thumb:

But nevertheless I still have many doubts:

He wasn't online all the time, but:
So at least at this time he must have been online, but also he never replied to your EMails at this time. Crazy...

His english: What he wrote in the past (here or esp. in SD forums) wasn't so bad and looked a bit more than google translate.
