Hmmmm .... I'd still rather Mozilla wait & get this right than rush to 'ship' the final. In the long run it will be better for them (& us).

Re: Beta: Firefox 4b 9 now available

At least regarding "real estate", Fx has drawn level with Chrome. Just the menu-button cum tabs cum Windows buttons on one row and the awesome bar on the other.

    Hi Ronjor,

I am getting the following error on all three computers when I close a tab on Firefox 4.0 Beta 9:

"Assert: Giving up waiting for the tab closing animation to finish (bug 608589) Stack Trace: 0:([object XULElement],[object XULElement],0)"

    Any help on the above?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Best regards,

    KOR!

beta 10 seems quite nice. AdBlock Plus works without need of any fiddles.

I'm a long time Firefox user, but have never tried any beta builds. I usually wait for the final release to come out....but this thread has peaked my curiosity.
Are you able to auto-update between betas, or perform updates manually? If manual is the answer, can the newer beta be installed on top of the old, or is a clean install recommended?

From beta 8 to 9 and from 9 to 10, I just went to Help, About and asked Fx to search for updates. The update from 9 to 10 was about 4.5 MB and was over the existing one.

You may not want to go the beta route if you're heavily dependent on add-ons. Of course, you can have Fx 3.6.13 running in parallel and just play with the beta since that is totally separate.

FYI. Be warned that the PortableApps FF Portable Beta edition, as downloaded via SourceForge, is corrupted!

Although the SF Folder contains the correct file size for the different Language versions, SourceForge seems to have lost all their mirrors, and if you try to download any of these files, 1 MB is the biggest size you'll see, thus a corrupted download. DO NOT INSTALL!

Thanks a lot, that sums it up nicely. Not a big add-on fan, so shouldn't be much of an issue. I'll check it out tonight while I watch the snow pile up...again.

I installed Firefox 4b10 in addition to my Firefox 3.6.13 installation. However when I now start the old one, the GUI is mixed up. Because FF 4 had no statusbar, the NoScript icon was moved next to the URLbar, it's back to the statusbar when I start 3.6, but the icon still remains next to the URLbar too, the reload and stop button have moved to between the URLbar and search-engine bar and the homepage button has moved to the utter right :S
Uninstalling 4b10 has not fixed this problem.

You should have backed up your profile folder prior to run Fx4.

I also noticed that FF 4 made at least one change to my preferences, it turned security.warn_viewing_mixed back to false.(Security warning for mixed content sites.)
I noticed these three too, but I can't seem to find what they are about:
    security.OCSP.disable_button.managecrl false
    security.disable_button.openCertManager false
    security.disable_button.openDeviceManager false

I wasn't aware FF 4 beta would use the same profile :( Only noticed it after running it that it checked all my addons for compatibility, but by then it was already too late..
