I think he meant those with a guard component, not on-demand.

    @3GUSER
Are you what I think you are? Are you formerly..? Nice to see you're still on here. Anyway, PC insurance? :D Some people don't even want to pay for insurance.

    Old thread: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=212597

Preventon when I tried it, has the guard disabled. I don't know if that changed. DD is better but the free doesn't remove USB infections?

Please include the link to the ClamAV plugin thread at the SpywareTerminator forum.

Others that may be worthy of inclusion:

Is this on-demand only? After 24 hrs I never received the key, will check again later.

Discontinued but still might work. Digital Patrol clone w/ guard.

    True..:)

    Lol..:p

    Thanks..:thumb: I didn't know that..:)
I am now trying Preventon, it has guard..:) and about DD I have used that and it can scan Removable drive, and I am sure it can remove too. We may get an opinion here.
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=290593
    Which link..o_O
Thanks a lot..:) I will check it soon.. I was not aware of it.. Most probably it will be in english..:)
I knew this but it was too much buggy last time I checked it. But I can include it in the list for sure..:)
    Its on-demand..:)
Yes discontinued and that's why I haven't included it like Drive Sentry.
AOL membership is not free and the next offer is through trialpay. Morover these are not complete free AVs as publishable in companies homepage. Another example is KIS CBE suite.

I haven't included it because now Sourcefire accuires both Immunet and ClamAV and so there is a chance that both will be merged.

In fact this is just a plugin to ClamAV and not a product like CS Antivirus or Moon Secure AV.
    Most probably discontinued
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=290692
It can remove threats and it downloads signatues of some wildlist malwares but was never a full flaged AV.
Discontinued, you will not find the product in their homepage.
Most probably discontinued. Last time I tried it 2 months ago, it didnot work.
Never heard of it, is it free?
    http://download.cnet.com/Innobate-AntiVirus-2010-Basic/3000-2239_4-75211383.html
    I may try it soon.
Actually I want to avoid such AVs because they are not at all made for the global market and threats..:)
Actually I am reluctant to add promo AVs in this list as it may not be forever..:)

When I tried Preventon last year, the guard is disabled and labeled 'for Pro'. When I installed DD, gen/heur, guard/scanner, log settings I think were either locked or sparse/lacking (for fine tuning). Did that change? There were other minor bugs that I reported to Mr./Ms. Reid. I haven't tried it since then. Removable media disinfection is a limitation of the Free according to their chart.

    http://digital-defender.com/digital-defender-antivirus-free

This one. So now the latest .dll is bundled with the ST installer?

Shame though since this clone has a guard. Why doesn't DP have a guard anyway? Well here's hoping it still works. The last version was 2.1 which you can also get on the cNet link.

Sorry about that . I didn't verify. I guess the Home version was discontinued. But try the three links on this page.

    http://www.bkav.com.vn/home/MuatheBkav2.aspx?d=9

If you don't mind I'm also interested to know the engine behind Innobate. Thanks! :)

Guard is now active in Free, I am currently running it..:) In DD those settings are still locked that means that those can't be customized...:)
And about disinfection of removable drive I think that means it can't do that in real time, but on manual scan of removable drive you can do that for sure...:)

Oh! that seems to me a very old story there, it has been there about 2 yr...:)

About DP I don't know why it doesn't, may be in future but DP integrates to Security Center in XP. My Free Antivirus used DP engine, I wasn't aware of that.. I tried the CNet installer 2 months ago but faced problems in updating...:(
    Thanks these works now..:)
    Me too...:)

Emsisoft Antimalware is free too, after the period expires you can use it On-Demand with all updates etc. Except realtime protection and BB.

I recommend that you remove ZenOK from the list. The program although it looks nice graphically is just plain dangerous to use since it does exactly nothing. Only thing that it actually managed to detect was EICAR sample. I wouldn't recommend anything this bad to anyone.

    EDIT:
Wow, Outpost Security Suite free? What AV engine is it using?

Actually it may have been improved. Trying in my real system now...:)
Tested against 5932 malwares, detected 5784 malwares. But it is still buggy, specially the on demand scanner. On access scanner is able to block threats though..:)

Well, i've tried 3 different versions and they were all same crap. Real time scanner does nothing and the auto running on-deman scan is ridiculously slow.
    No thanks.

Well I will not recommend it to because there is still some serious areas for improvement, I just tested to see if this is a pure crap or not...;)
Actually I have some concern to it because it is the first free english product that is supposed to use BD engine.

What if autorun was not disabled and there's another lnk exploit? Surely this limitation poses a safety risk that can influence a not-so-smart user to buy the Pro and a smart user to look for and use a better alternative.

Well this is quite misleading. Obviously, you can never be fully protected by an on-demand scanner. Security Center should stay yellow when it only detects an on-demand scanner. And I still haven't received the DP giveaway key. :(

Bkav Home for English seems to have been discontinued.

Innobate AV (not free) seems to be using an in-house engine developed by them and was released at the end of 2009.

And V3lite seems to have been discontinued by Ahnlab.

I have good news. The links for Bkav Home are working again. Bkav Home is outdated though and doesn't support live, cumulative updates like Bkav Pro. However, Bkav will soon release Bkav Security Essentials (BkavSE) that will supersede Bkav Home. BkavSE will have live updates and cloud scanning. So better check the Bkav site frequently or maybe I'll just post here again if ever I get hold of new info.

Very good news. I am going to subscribe to their newsletter...:D

About Innobate, I tried the free from softpedia
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/INNOBATE-AntiVirus-Free.shtml
But that asked me to enter registration info and for that I needed to purchase a license. So I think it no longer is valid.....:ninja:
