New USB2.0 Flash Drive-Wiping Necessary?

    I just received a "New" 8 GB USB2.0 Flash Drive. I decided to "wipe" the new Flash Drive to feel comfortable that it is "Malware Free". Am I being too "Paranoid"?

    I used BootITNG 1.87: Delete Partition, Clear Boot Sector, Wipe Partition. The wipe process took about 12 minutes.
