I just saw the recent defs update for Spybot S&D (2 June 2010). What a long list of iPhone Spyware; have a look: (I have to admit that this is rather new to me....)
What I could find, is this: http://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?cat=12 I don't know which OS an iPhone is using (well I understand that it is not a MS product ). (I cannot use things like iPhone, or simply SMS on a mobile phone: my eyes are too bad to be able to read them)
iPhone uses its own (restricted) iPhone OS. http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=57414 From Twitter: "@moblynggames: your iPhone games are now listed as spyware due to using AdMob & PinchMedia."
From what I know, the only true iPhone and iPad malware scanner is Intego VirusBarrier X6. ITunes always backs up the two every time you plug them in. Spybot may catch the malware on the backup, but I don't know if they have the work through that Intego would have on getting the cleaned version of the backup that was just cleaned back on your iPad or iPhone. At this time I would really only trust Intego with having the most malware sigs for Apple stuff. They have been in it the longest and have the honeypots and know where to find the malware. Most of the other AV vendors always seem to follow Intego. Intego finds it and they copy the definitions. Example for lack of trusting other vendors. Kaspersky for Mac does not have a heuristic engine. FAIL .
One scenario you could use, Jan - if in doubt add the detections to the SpyBot ignore list as you do not want SpyBot removing potentially unwanted software from your iPhone app software until you can confirm this is a legitimate malware flag. This is the SpyBot announcement of said spyware I am thinking that Apple is perhaps resonsible for this since Apple has banned competing ad delivery to the device, this may be what SpyBot is flagging ? One can only speculate - best of luck, I am subscribed to this thread, and will be following with interest FTC To Review Allegations Apple’s iAd is Anti-Competitive: Report
Hey Randy, Thanks for asking buddy ! In general: I wanted to raise attention about it both in general, and also in particular with respect to Spybot S&D. I think that some good info and links were giving in the replies (thanks to all of you guys!). As for me personally: I cannot use (and don't use) things like a iPhone: too bad eyes. Warm regards, Jan
Hi, Jan Have you made the folks at SpyBot aware of the erroneous detections ? I and I'm sure others would be curious to know. Good thread, great discussion. All the best
Hi Randy, Probably a misunderstanding (caused by me): I don't get an erroneous detection. PS: ALiasEX gave in reply # 5 the link to a Spybot S&D forum thread in which PepiMK gives an explanation about it: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=57414
