I am curious why you like Prevx better. Hitman Pro 3.5 has a direct link with the Prevx cloud and Hitman Pro 3.5 is on average a lot faster. Hitman Pro 3.5 lacks realtime protection though.

It may link with the Prevx cloud database, but according to PrevxHelp here, the engine you're using is an older version and files are scanned differently to the current Prevx standalone program. Some users may prefer to use the newer model.

Okay, so I've thought out a setup which I'll at least use in the future, if not very soon. Sandboxing will be the only real-time protection. That means super-light, but super-secure. :D

    It's...

DefenseWall with Hitman Pro running a scan at startup. That means I can most of the time just install those two upon for example a reformat, and I don't have to do any settings and such - just install and go, and only time that I would've to set something it would be for adding rules or changing untrusted/trusted status according to my preferences. :D AWESOME! :argh:

    Ad 1 makes sense

Ad 2 you're joking man, or you did not understand the benefits of the 'cloud' (or web based services) architecture o_O

You can't go wrong here, smart setup indeed

    a) Hitman Pro scan on startup (the best security application from Holland :p )
    b) DefenseWall as your active defense
    c) Sandboxie protecting only two forced folders
    - TEMP/TMP variables default directory
    - Install folder

When you set a downloaded executable from untrusted to trusted (DW protection stops) and move it in the Install folder (SBIE protection starts) and install safely. When Hitman discovers something, you can empty that sandbox.

Hmm... now that sounds like some VERY interesting stuff. :D

EDIT: I'll most probably run that setup once I've money for that - which temp directories specifically would that be?

Look at the windows variables TEMP and TMP, these are your default temporary directories.

    New setup, all Dutch language

Comodo FW, with this config (change VVV for WWW download) http://VVV.2shared.com/file/7014699/f0dec011/COMODO_-_Quiet_FW.html

Has some extra Registry protection, cut down file protection, but covers the important files, See pic for D+ protection

DefenseWall Dutch (default settings, no logging, USB drives also untrusted)

    On demand:
    - A2 Free dutch (with A2cmd.exe /U in user auto start minimalised for update at log-on)
    - Hitman Pro 3.5 free
    - Autoruns free
    - OSAM free
    - Regrun free
    - Panda ARK free

Daily browsing with IRON, complete locked down (registry/data access) by D+, BankingShopping with IE8 and freebie keyscrambler (great product). OpenDNS to check phising (plus IE manual check before on-line purchase)

    Cheers

    Note:
Becasue of an old BBC program (guys in a van listened to the wireless traffic of someone not using any wireless security measures), my wife ASKED for a firewall on her PC :argh: :argh: :argh: A friend had told her to use Comodo. He even came over to install it for her.

Ahh well, I always tell everyone I am out of IT for at least 20 years, so do not know a **** about it

After one hour I advised him to set the comodo download to trusted with DefenseWall :D :D :D

Hi, can i ask sir a few questions?

    a) how do you set these setting for sandboxie?
    b) where can i find these folders?
    c) and are they the only important folders to force? (i also forced my other drives such as e:/, f:/ g:/ etc for usb protection)

    Reinwald,

This only makes sense when you use SBIE alongside GesWall or DefenseWall

right click system, select advanced (on XP), there you will find a button where teh system variables can be found and altered. See pic

    New Vista 64 setup

    1. UAC + free Sully's PGS (see pic) + free Norton UAC Tool
    2. Vista FireWall plus free Windows7 FW control
    3. MSE

That is it, THX to Sully

What is the beauty off it?
    - Vista UAC + Norton UAC control elevation requests
    - PGS applies a default deny execute in the user space (the denied paths)

Installing programs in a controlled manner
    - Move the installation file to C:\Program Files\Installation
    ==> UAC pops-up a warning
    - 7 out of 10 installations will work, for some (extracting files to TEMP dir, downloading the actual installer
my son has to change the Softeware Restriction Policy of C:\Gebruikers\Kevin to Allow through PGS and
after install change the SRp from Allow to Deny again.

Hopefully the wording in this thread of, "these days," never becomes,"this day." Pick yourself a good setup and go with it. If it keeps you secure and safe, and you like it, then you really have no logical reason to visit this thread again.;)

I thought this thread was where members could just post updates about changes to their security setup.
Now I see that it has been turned into an everything thread as usual, where people go on and on about how great is their setup, why it is better than everyone else, blah, blah, blah.

Man, nothing is sacred to you guys, is there?
