Why does Backup need so much time?

    Hello,

sorry for my bad English. I hope you understand my question.
My TI 10 Build is 4940. I have set a daily task for HD 1 with differential backups to my backup-folder on HD 2 (I do not use Secure Zone). The folder is limited to 21 Images (3 weeks) and a max. size of 50 GB.

Always when the limit is reached, the backup runs up to 99 % in a few minutes and then it works and works about 30 minutes or more, only to delete one of the older Images. Why does this need such a long time?

Have you upgraded to the latest version of TI 10?

If you have scheduled daily tasks for 21 differentials with no intervening full images when the size or space runs out True image has a problem. This is because it somehow has to create a new base image from which to start the next run of differentials. If it did not do this, when the original old image was deleted, you would effectively have no backups as the differentials would not have a base to which they could hook.

I do not use the backup locations feature or differentials with V10 so my comment is not based on personal experience.

You may want to try doing full image backups only of your entire HDD.

I suggest it will take less time and is more secure because it provides for less human error (scheduling, space requirement, etc).

    Thanks for all answers.
I do not think, this is the reason, because I have set TI to create a new basic image after reaching 6 differentials. So when the 21. image is reached, TI can delete the oldest image without loosing the base image. For example (Limit here is 14 backups):

    1. Base
    2. diff
    3. diff
    4. diff
    5. diff
    6. diff
    7. diff

    8. Base
    9. diff
    10. diff
    11. diff
    12. diff
    13. diff
    14. diff

Image No.15 has to be a base image but the limit of 14 backups is reached.
The log shows that TI first runs the new base image in a few minutes and then it begins to check the limits and to delete what is needed. And this takes much more time than the creation of the new base itself.
TI has only to delete backup No. 2 and all would be done.
If I had made incrementals, TI would only need to delete Backup No. 7.

So where is the problem and why does that need so much time? I really cannot understand it.

I forgot to say that the size-limit of my backup folder has not been reached.

I am glad in a way that my suggested answer was incorrect. This is because you had already scheduled regular base images. I only brought it up because some users do not plan ahead as well as you have done!

As to another valid possibility I cannot help as I do not actually use differentials or increments myself. Full images are all I ever use.

    Hello redbull21,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please note that at this point Acronis True Image verifies if it is possible to perform consolidation process. Note that backup archive consolidation involves analyzing and combining full image archive and incremental\differential backup, thus, the consolidation process might take the same amount of time as full image creation.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for your answer.

It seems the procedure might be much more difficult as I have thought. If I understood right, the only way to shorten up the tasks time period, will be setting down the limit for the number of backups. This makes the image archiv smaller and the process of consolidation won't last such a long time.

Thats not really satisfying because it limits my number of daily recovery-points. Ok, I will consider what's more important for me.
