    I may be a bit prejudice, but I have to go with Avira SS. As much as I like Avira SS, I was very close to going with another suite because of a Rootkit scanning problem. And I was a little miffed that there was no e-mail support for Avira SS customers.

    Stefan Kurtzhuls offered his valuable time to help me with the problem. With his help, and some luck in stumbling upon a thread in the Avira forum started by someone with basically the same problem, the scanning problem is resolved.

    I just want to say that I am very grateful for Stefan taking the time to help me with this.

    EDIT......The other suite I was prepared to go with is KIS

    @Graystoke,

    Why are you posting this and tempting me to go back to ASS? Yes, despite their problems, I do believe they have some fantstic programmers and people in the support forum. I have complained about their pricing for the suite but still like it more than any I have used. I am glad your problem is resolved and soon, will put it back on mhy laptop and let it ride for a few months.

    Have not used KIS, but I have used both AOL AVS (based on Kapersky) and Avira Antivirus. AOL AVS added a full minute to the boot up time on my laptop; additionally, browsing really seemed to slow down. Maybe AVS gave me better protection, but my laptop felt like it was stuck in molasses. Went back to Avira and the slowdown went away.

    Sorry huntnyc. :p ;) It's just that on my computer, it's the best running suite. I just don't get the performance hit I experience with some of the other suites I've tried.

    I don't remember if you were having the same problem I was having with the Rootkit scan freezing. The solution for me was to uninstall Avira SS, run CCleaner, and then reinstall a fresh copy of Avira SS from the Avira web site.

    Good to hear you are going to give Avira SS another try. Good luck. :)

    I have tried and tried to determine the smoothest and best suite out there, and no matter what, kept returning to Avira. So my hunt is over and time to take a rest.;)
