I know there is a thread opened already but there are 29 pages on it and honestly I don't have the time to go through it.

Could anyone answer the following as I am no Mandarin speaker?

    1. Conditions to use the software; I mean, what is required to use it for free and how to do it.

    2. How to I change the Chinese format into English?

    Thx in advance.

It is free. All you have to do is enter a name and email address. I used a fake name and email and it registered without a problem.

As for changing the format to English, go to the long Powershadow thread and on page 1, read post 24. He can pm you the details.

according to PowerShadow website, it is no longer free :( I can't even find the chinese language page where they posted a free serial number...

check the FAQ under the question "Is PowerShadow free?":
    http://powershadowsecurity.com/PowerShadowFAQGeneral.aspx

can anyone clear this please? is the 2.6 freeware but the latter versions shareware/trialware?

Thx but I decided not to install it because the whole thing looks shady, including the website itself. You know it's a Chinese thing, never straight forward. Confucianism in practice.

Dunno if it's really that shady now or not, but not so very long ago when first introduced it sure wasn't and is proven immensely beneficial for those who got in on it's first introduction here.

Power Shadow even trumps a FREEZE snapshot in FD-ISR for me, and no way i would trust such an app if it couldn't perform above and beyond expectations, which it has and continues to this day.

Those who will likely pass over it for various reasons or concerns don't really know what a treasure they've missed out on.

About every sandbox i've tried is always made for one issue or another if not some incompatibility with other softs or the system itself. Same doesn't apply to Virtual Machines but then again they can demand a lot of space.

Space better suited for more a important level of protection as in FD-ISR snapshots, that neither fail nor falter so long as theres ample supply of updated ARCHIVES to fall back on.

Power Shadow fills in that gap of shadowing a volume/partition and with amazing ease, reliability, and effectiveness without even a reboot! Just point and click!
Did i mention it is also multi-compatible with most all security softs and absolutely stable on the system.

    PS 2.6 version here

Alright, after reading this extra info I am going to give this program a spin, but I still don't trust this company as they are making difficult for non-Chinese users to access the freeware version.

The page provided by CastleCops and linked by Flinchlock ends up in a different spot:

    http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1529/20070428222001cl4.png

The file can be downloaded from the Chinese site. Here:

Go right to the bottom and click in the middle link. See screenie:

Now, what version do you recommend me to download: English (2.6) or Chinese (2.8.2)?

    Thx in advance.

    There are two versions...
2.6 is the English version with the Serial Number
2.8.2 is the Chinese version that only needs a email addy.

A person (Expresso?) translated some of the files in the 2.8.2 version into English, which I am assuming is the file on sendspace.

Almost everyone here on Wilders will tell you it makes NO difference which version you choose.

    Mike

P.S. The sendspace version is the official Chinese version from the official site, PLUS an english folder that you take those files and over-write/replace the Chinese files.

That is really not the reason... you need to read the entire 700+ posts in this link https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=161735.

    Flinchlock,

Sorry but I don't feel like to go through a 700+ posts thread. Insane!

Don't care about the reasons at this stage, but I would like to say thank you to the developers for making this freeware.

Now I read somewhere in the first 3 pages of that thread some users complaning about the serial number not working. Is this thing still happening now? If so then I would install the Chinese version.

I need this point clarified before I start with the installation.

    Thx.

What the actual problem is/was when you use the 2.6 English version, do not use Word to copy/paste... instead use Notepad. (Word will have the serial number plus all the bold, format info.)

Cool, I always use notepad for small stuff I get online.

    Cheers.

You gain nothing with version 2.8.2 but only lose time trying to overwrite the chinese with (Expresso's?) english translation files.

The functionality is exactly the same as in 2.6 so far as i been told, and since it was first installed it has never given me a single moment of concern.

It's now proven a rather routine program such as notepad AFAIK, but with infinitely more strategic value & advantages.

Aside from offering full system shadowing (all drives) v2.82 also offers better compatibility with 2003 Server and SATA drives. I use both so it seems the better option to me. Just because you cannot see changes between the versions doesn't mean there aren't any.

Ahhh, seems i recall now the favorability with Server 2003 but i didn't know about the SATA drives. Thanks for pointing that out and i do stand corrected.

The full shadowing you mention also in addition to the above covers dual-drive set up then? I never bothered to investigate that because so long as my single drive and all it's partitions could be shadowed, that was pretty enough secure IMO.

    Problem,

I tried to install PS and right when I click install a pop-up came up saying that I don't have physical memory in the partition, do you want to continue? I clicked no, checked my drives and got 44.8 and 36.6 GB on both C: and D:

Now what do I do with this, resize the drives?

Very odd, since I am not running that much stuff in this box and got 1 GB of RAM.

    Any ideaso_O

    Cheers.

Do you have 44.8G free space on drive C and 36.6 free space on drive D?

Or these two numbers are the partition size, not the free space.

How many free space are there on your system partition ?

O.T.:Do you need to exit running programs (a/v-shield, firewall, etc.) before engaging P.S.? I thought I'd better ask since I couldn't register P.S. until I realized not to enter my own name as usero_O

Nah, you just start shadow mode and away you go. No need to turn anything off from my experience, i haven't found anything that conflicts with it yet. If you use 2.82 you do enter your own name and email address to register.

On my old school computer all i've been using for a while now is just powershadow. The system is too slow to run layers of security apps and still have tolerable performance. I've got it setup just how i like it and i just boot into full shadow mode everytime. Every malware scan done since has come up empty, no cookies, nothing. Awesome stuff!
