heh, I send malware very frequently to at least 2 vendors. I know at least a little bit about who detects garbage and who does not.

Eset, FRISK, Grisoft, Dr.Web and even VirusBuster do not detect crud. Grisoft even sends me a detailed list of which files are clean among my submitted samples and which are corrupted. So, as much as anyone can tell me, I will have to believe this test. :)

If you think this test was like virus.gr, then even AV-comparatives' PUP detection statistics are "fake" according to you. :)

The one thing that stands out to me here is NOD32 only detecting 79% of file viruses. Very poor. Good detection otherwise. This isn't the first time I've seen/experienced poor NOD32 performance, but it really does seem to be slipping in those tables lately.

Often wondered why NOD would miss something, and KAV would pick it up,:ninja: Anyway, looks like we'll see CSJ in a Trillion Years after he's finished with his New Tele and PS3 :p

i think the test has been done with standard settings, but i am not sure.

That is what I suspect. I know AV-test has a good reputation, but I wish they were more transparent, or maybe the word is interactive. Is there anyway of finding out for sure how they tested it?

That's one thing I like about AV-comp. We (the ordinary enthusiasts) can ask IBK questions and interact with him.

OMG, NOD32 is only the 4th !!! This will cause a total general collapse in the GNOD32 Fan Club. :D

NAV and Panda AV don't scan web traffic too.

I am also confused here. Does NAV has http scanner?

Hi rayoflight! That,s very true. The GUI of these two is not good especially Avast is horrible in this regard..

I know it uses a heuristic scanner (SONAR):

Yeah, I didn't care for the default "Media Player" skin myself. I used the MacLover OS skin when I used Avast! I see now they have a nice Vista skin (aVist) on their skin download page: http://www.avast.com/eng/skins.html

I remember the first night I used Avast!. I had a 5.1 surround system back then and that night I had the volume up. I did not know that Avast had a audible warning as well and I went on a website that tried to download some malware on to my computer. Avast's warning almost scared me out of my clothes, lol.

I just change it to simple user interface without any skin. Looks clean n decent, no clutter. I wonder why don,t they use a nice default GUI. Weired!

Or this test finally clarifies some "True myths" of NOD against Avast or AVG, like...

    > It is well know that NOD32 is faster, lighter and better in detection than Avast.

    > Moreoever NOD32 detects all kind of threats including viruses, trojans, worms + spyware stuff + even rootkits.
Avast detects only viruses/trojans/worms + chosen other things.

    > Detection and heuristic wise, NOD32 is better (than AVG Anti-Malware).

    > NOD32 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than AVG.

    > I would like to know one thing that AVG have better than NOD32...

    > AVG is a good AV, but it seems far from NOD's performance.

    > Ya NOD32 is way better, I don't even know why I bothered to state AVG's pros.

Still NOD is a good av, but in which class, when?

    > Noone has said it (AVG) has bad detection rates. its free and pro versions have AVERAGE detection rates. :doubt:

Oops, what I wrote AGAIN! ;)

    Best regards,
    Firefighter!

One man does not an an Av make. The Inspector would be the first to tell you that, and I believe he did when he said he was leaving for F-Prot. There is still a very talented team at Eset.

What a coincidence. IC leaves Eset and arrives to Frisk. See the av-comparatives. Who is this monster? :D

Agreed, and there is also enough evidence to support this (AV-comparatives August 2006 on-demand, for those of you who are skeptics). :)

He Da Man! I still personally feel that his move has somewhat affected both companies. Someone who is very knowledgeable and talented CAN change things around, just like God. I proudly hold my point and statement.

And what results would we get assuming if VB did these tests ? Would also be interesting to know how PC World did these tests. Personally I would trust any AV test done by VB over PC World and thats a fact.

Through fishing on the Internet, I got to know Marx's email ID, but I'm not sure if I should contact him about this (standard or maximum settings), because, well I'm "unauthorised" and "insignificant" and he's a busy man. :doubt:

But, most likely it hasn't been done with default settings, because even PC World isn't that foolish. :)
