Acronis True Image users with/without problems

Just wondering if there are many silent ATI users out there who are happy and not experiencing problems. Hopefully, the happy users come to this Forum on occasion.

I'm one of them (but not exactly silent).

 

I have a very minor issue which is with support. It doesn't prevent me from taking effective backups or restoring my data, so as far as I'm concerned for the puposes of this poll I have no problems.

 

I am glad to see such a poll. I considered purchasing ATI 8 back when it was the latest version. It had received great reviews elsewhere but after seeing all the problems posters in this forum had, I decided to stay away from it and stick with my tried and true Drive Image 4. When Acronis decided to offer the full ATI 7 for free last year, presumably for promotional purposes, I decided to at least give it a try. I tend to shy away from trial versons of software since most are crippled in some way, including ATI. To my surprise, it worked flawlessly, even from the boot CD, with both cloning and imaging, incuding using an external drive. That may be because I have older hardware, I don't know. I am very satisfied with ATI 7 and have no interest in upgrading to any of the newer versions. The additional "features" are not important to me. I use ATI for the core functions of imaging and cloning, almost exclusively from the boot CD. Other functions are unnecessary, bloated fluff as far as I am concerned.

Hav´nt seen the slightest problem with this app and always been amazed of all reported problems from other users on this forum...therefor a good poll as the happy users tend to act silently without comments...

 

no problems,so far..
using the home verison 9.0 build 3.677; most stable build/version imho.
but still i prefer to stay away from "secure zone" and "actv. startup recovery manager" options.

 

Voters will notice that multiple answers are possible. This can be of interest for those operating under both a Windows XP O/S and Vista.

 

I'm a very satisfied Windows XP - ATI 10 user with very few problems (none in the Windows environment). The Emergency Boot CD had caused me minor problems such as mouse recognition and extraordinarily long image creation/recovery times, but I guess that's because of the CD's Linux environment.

That said, ATI has never failed to recovered our PCs after a 'crisis'.

PS. I backup to an external USB drive and as I'm also a satisfied Rollback Rx user I have no need for creating an ATI Ssftety Zone or using the ATI Recovery Manager.

Creating a BartPE CD with ATI plugin is worth the effort.

 

I do simple full backups and do not use the Secure Zone or direct-writing of the archive to DVD. I am still using TI9 and have never had a problem that was not my hardware (marginal SATA cable).

 

I have been using ATI 9.1 Workstation and Server versions (latest builds) on WinXP Pro and Server2K3 respectively. Over the past 8 years, ATI has been near-perfect. I backup to removable ATA HDDs, which I then store in a secure area after backing up.

I use ATI in a very simplistic manner... I always create full backups (grandfather, father and son) and I never bother doing incremental or differential backups (the time/space saved is not worth it to me). Finally, since I too rely on Rollback Rx for instant-recovery issues, I have no need for ATI's Secure Zone and Recovery Manager. Fwiw, the Linux Boot CD has sometimes presented driver-related issues for me, but none of those issues have ever precluded my achieving ATI's purpose and intent.

Btw, this thread would be much more informative if everyone posting would specify the version and build of ATI they are using (as well as their OS).

 

I use Acronis True Image Home since March 2006 and I never had any problems with it, except a rather slow backup/restore, which is probably due to not using BartPE (?), but that didn't bother me so much.

However, once ShadowProtect v3.0 is ready and tested/approved by me during the trial period, I will ditch ATI v9. So an upgrade to v10 won't happen and that will save me $30, which can be used to pay ShadowProtect, if I add an extra $40.

The main reason : I don't like the way ATI evolves.
1. Old minor and bigger problems are still not fixed.
2. ATI v10 is the beginning of REAL bloatware : it started with the Secure Zone, which is absurd on an external harddisk. I could live with the Secure Zone, but a special backup for software settings and emails was too much for me.
3. The Acronis Rescue CD has minor problems, like :
- wrong partition letters, even letters that don't exist, so good partition NAMES are important in ATI.
- wrong information, like telling me I have a SCSI-system, which is not true
- wrong keyboard : QWERTY-keyboard instead of AZERTY-keyboard, which is annoying for typing file names.

Acronis will probably give me a plausible explanation for all this and thank me for choosing ATI, but I don't need that explanation as a USER.
If Acronis can't solve these problems, small or big, I'm questioning the quality of their computer department and once I feel that, I ditch a software.

 

Great idea to have a poll mfabien. I'm currently using 9, 9.1 and 10 and I think I still have 8 on an old machine. I only make full images.

As someone who has had very few problems with Acronis since version 6 I am often concerned that future users might be put off from buying Acronis by the complaints and issues raised on Forums. I'm not saying that issues don't exist - rather that it is normal for those with problems to be more vocal.

Hopefully your poll with help right the balance.

 

Ive been using ATI since 8.x without problems. Then again, I only use the rescue media to make full images to a secondary partition. Very simple and not likely to cause problems.

 

I knew most ATI users are happy... over 87% without problems up to now.

The problem with this poll is that users don't always consider a problem as a problem.
So they vote for "ATI user without problems" while they should vote for "ATI user with problems".
Problems ARE problems and nothing will change that, no matter what users think.

 

I don't understand your post. Why would I vote that I had no problem if TI wasn't behaving properly. Sure the product can have problems with features I don't use but in my case, I am a user without problems.

 

That's because you only see your personal photo, not the group photo.
Users only test what they need, testers test EVERYTHING, that's the difference.
I stick to my post and opinion.

In the past I have systematically tested most of the features in TI 7, 8 and 9. Yes, there have been problems associated with each Version/Build and I have made these known to fellow users and Acronis Support.

Currently I use TI 9.0 Home build 3677. Although this has some minor issues (for which there are known workarounds), none of them impact on my personal backup and restore requirements. Therefore in the spirit and title of this poll, I consider myself a True Image user without problems.

The category refers to user with/without any problem not tester who has tested every obscure command and configuration with/without a problem.

I think the intent of the poll is to find out how many people feel they have/have not a problem using it to do what they wish, not a global confirmation of TI operation.

 

I guess it's obvious, that I don't share that spirit.
I use the same version and build as Menorcaman and I never had any problems with ATI since March 2006, nevertheless I voted "ATI user with problems" and I explained why in my first post.
Forget about it, I only said my opinion just like anyone else.

 

Everyone uses a software product in their own specific way (and ATI is no exception). I have been engaged (professionally) with Software Quality Assurance and from my perspective their is no such thing as problem-free software. Sooner or later someone will uncover an issue that up to then remained buried.

In a poll such as this one, we should only respond based on our personal experiences with the product in question - after all, the only opinion we have a right to express is our own!

What has ATI to do with this comment ? Nothing. We are talking about softwares, not life. You are mixing two things that have nothing to do with eachother. That doesn't change anything and certainly not for me.
