Outline your opinion HOW ESS WORKS BY NOW FOR YOU?

Guys just say does it worth installing by now or it is too early?

 

Unfortunately, the answer to this question depends on a lot of variables that no one can pin down.

I am running ESS on two computers - a laptop running XP, and a desktop running Vista Ultimate. Neither computer has suffered ill effects. I have not lost access to network sharing, web pages load fast, and I have had only minor GUI problems (firewall box not resizing with the window, only occasionally). In my experience, there have been no "showstoppers". It's not feature complete, but it's worked well for me.

If you look around this board, there are people with problems. The best recommendation that I can offer is make your decision based on the following questions:
1) Do you require feature-complete software in order to be happy, even if the program is in early beta?
2) Do you have the time to recover from a serious program failure in the event one should occure?

If you answer number 1 with "yes" or 2 with "no", then this beta is not for you. Your mileage may vary, and if you have the time I encourage you to try and provide feedback.

The main reason for this thread was to outline other users opinion in terms of YES or NO.
I tell you straight it seems rather difficult to read everything in this topic, all threads I mean.

 

Yes, I would recommended ESS Beta 1. Definitely worth a try. There may be a few hiccups and unfinished features, but fortunately I haven't experienced anything serious on either my XP or Vista installs.

Everything is working as usual: apps, games, even p2p seems to work well. I just hope when if the time comes and a threat is found, ESS will act accordingly. From what I've seen with NOD32 and ESS thus far I'm very confident it will.

I agree with AshG: "Try it and provide feedback."

*Edit: Have had one rare BSOD on Vista that may have had nothing to do with ESS.
I can't be bothered downloading the Vista symbols yet for the debugging tools... meh.

 

I have no problems with the Beta. I'm running the firewall on automatic.
The only thing I would like to see added is the subscription expiration date.
Seems very stable to me. I'm running XP Home /SP2.

 

I find the Eset Security Suite to be about the best beta
I have participated in, am experiencing minor GUI problems,
few quirks with the firewall pop ups, aside from that ESS is
running extremely well, and very stable on my rig.

Think the comments AshG made in response to your
thread should be considered as excellent advice.

ess is working really well on my winxp sp2 machine, and it appears to have a decent setup. I was setting up open ports for azuerus and decided that i would take the easy route and just disable the firewall when i notice there was'nt a way todo so, atleast i could not find it. i like the network feature and now all i need an active content filter and a way to shut down if i need to.

 

It's not working at all on my Vista system. After installation, I get a blue screen each time. I can't get past the welcome screen without a restart. I'm not sure if it's my computer's individual configuration, but I've seen others here report problems on Vista.

When installing, I see no option to run as administrator.

I was a bit afraid to install the product after reading some of the threads here, but after installation went smoothly, I was very surprised by the stability of the product.

I think there is a lot more to do in terms of the GUI and streamlining the options. I not so satisfied from the antispam module. I think the toolbar is to large and so far I'm not happy with the spam scanning results. But I think that easy to fix with the next beta version.
I'm amazed by the low memory footprint that goes to about 10MB on my XP.

It is not working on my XP sp2 pro. After installation and reboot system is totally frozen and the only thing I can do is to go into safe mode and remove ESS directory manually.

On my german xpsp2 everything works very smoothly. Again ESET did a great job again. I hope to get right click scan soon, and exclusions and antispam not only for Outlook

No problems so far running the ESS under a German Win Vista Ultimate.

 

Perhaps this is an obvious point, but I would be certain to clean out temp files, history files etc., & also clean out your registry after uninstalling a previous product prior to installing this beta; then reboot. Installing the beta on Vista Home Premium worked without incident using the above procedure.

 

I've tried ESS on both XP Pro SP2 and Windows XP Media Center 2005 SP2. Systems were stripped of all other security related programs prior to the install. Both installs went fine. Performance is decent for a beta - an occasional system stall is seen while browsing, so far that is the only performance related issue noted. No system crashes or lockups to date.

No issues at all. Would love to see the antispam eventually work with Firefox, but all in all, great beta.

 

So far I have installed ESS beta on 2 machines: desktop and laptop. The version installed on my desktop is working fine. No problems during installation or since.

I had to remove the version from my laptop since the firewall module would not load correctly and was choking all internet access. I have reported this to Eset here in the forum and by email.

So far I'm pleased and looking forward to following this product through final release!

The onliest real issues I could found were with the firewall itself or stuff related to the firewall (like the HTTP scan controlled by the ~firewall).
The anti-malware part is excellent

Hope to see the final release soon and enjoy max protection on all computers

With a great respect to all posts above, how many of others have their system blue screen / crash after installing ESS?

 

It locked up my xp sp2 once so I had to hit the reset button, but that was while hitting lots of different buttons in ess.
I haven't tried it on my Vista machine yet because Vista is so unstable on it, it's hard to test anything.

 

No problems so far on a WIN XP Pro system. Very stable and smooth and no slowdowns seen even on dial-up! Updating seems much faster than in NOD2.

 

It's working great. A couple of crashes but I couldn't replicate them.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all updates until March.

 

So far, no major issue, just minor irritation like blocking all my connections when I switch from Automatic to Interactive.
I hope they can emulate the functionality of Outpost Firewall, especially the way OF blocks big graphics file from loading in the browser.
No complaint on the tried and proven Anti-virus part.

 

It works reasonably well. There have been no major traumas, but, even allowing that it's a beta1, I am rather disappointed by the leakiness of the firewall.
Using gmail as my default Outlook email account, I get little or no spam, so that feature is of little use to me.

I understand that a beta is a beta, but I am also disappointed that there are many functions not implemented, such as right click options among others.
Surely a beta should have EVERY function of a ready to release product, so that testers can evaluate EVERY part of the proposed general public offering?

I think, on reflection that many people will opt for a free "stand alone" firewall and just use Eset's excellent virus protection module.This is a more economically viable option for a lot of users, too.

 

I'd like to report my problem on Vista to ESET via e-mail. Would I have to re-install and then send the dump file?
