    hello,
as you know i have kis6.0 on my desktop and it works great.
but there are two things that annoy me.
when ever a firewall popup comes up and i press eiether allow or deny it avp.exe uses 100percent CPU for a few seconds lagging my online game.
also when it updates it laggs my pc for a few seconds as well.
now you might think so what its only a few seconds but with hourly updates those few seconds happen every hour.
i decided on kis.6.0 on this pc because i wanted the highest possible detection rate without slowing me down to much since my mum and dad use this pc with internet banking.
anyway when ive got a weekend job and the cash im gonna build myself a pc.
it will be a cheap dual core pc.

the problem is i want an av that doesnt lagg my online game or make my music jump because of the high cpu usage
it must have a decent detection rate and also a good removal rate if anything did get through.
heres my list feel free to add to my list.
    in no particular order
    Nod32
    f-prot
    Drweb

i know there are more light weight antivirus avalible but cant think of any more so please refresh my memory while i browse the forum for light weight av's
ive been thinking about this for a while and its hard to choose.

well ive liked dr.web for ages now and have a huge licence for it now,

but if you plan on building a new dual core pc, i doubt your kaspersky will stutter on updates with that, or is this a known thing for any user?

nod32 would be the other option for sure.

i guess it could only then use 100percent cpu on one core at worst.
maybe i should ask trjam he must know the best balance between protection and light weight he has slept around enough:D
i am starting to like drweb and will try it out more when i install windows 2k on my old pc.
i still cant get around the lower detection on drweb thou it hasnt completely put me off thou.
i havent been abke to test the new f-prot yet due to it not compatible with windows ME.
i have always liked nod32 but i seem to read about sometimes you have to do manual removal where as normaly with kav it can use advanced disenfectent technology to get rid of it in one go.
but somepeople have had no32 remove alot of threats so there two sides to every story.

for removal i should you Chris since your a highrisk surfer and for lightweight av's with decent detection rates i should ask trjam since he has used them all.

i honestly think you should stick to your kaspersky lodore, you have found one you like, one your machine likes and it keeps you safe.

sure kaspersky as some faults and niggles of its own, but so does dr.web and nod32 aswell and all the rest aswell.

Apparently KLabs are working on a Fix for online gaming, you can ask for more info on their forums. ;)

also theres the problem with pricing.
this pc will stay in use as the family pc while my pc will just be for me with no crap and be able to run flawlessly all the time.
so thats means if i wanted to use kaspersky on it i would need to buy another license. kav is £25 and kis6.0 is £50......
but on the other hand drweb is like £14 and nod32 on student license £10
    f-prot is about £14

    any links?
    all i found was this
    http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=34594
also what about the firewall slowing down the internet connection?
i seem to have only like 18kb per seconds on downloading streaming videos on youtube.
can someone not using kav/kis6.0 go to youtube in opera and watch a video called party hard by andrew wk to see what the speed is?
the reason i said in opera is because opera has a nice little bar saying how fast the downloading of streaming vids and webpages.

well since my name was mentioned.

If going with Kaspersky I would just go with the AV and PDM. Less annoying popups and great protection with a NAT router.

I like Dr Web but waiting to see detection improvement, which I think we will later this year.

Eset, well the suite will tell it all as far as things I dont like about the current product and making it more user friendly. I am hoping it jumps forward as the product of choice.

Right now, I aint happy with anything. Prediction: For 2008 I bet Kaspersky drops KIS and goes to one product that envelops security on a broader range. No anti-hacker but more of a enveloped suite of security. And this is what needs to happen.

    2008?

more excited about 2007, especially for my dr.web hopefully. :D

i just hope, the hype lives up to my high expectations.

i think the eset suite will be all good, but nothing special or extra-ordinary compared to other suites.

and i think kaspersky, will once again lead the way in detection.

I think Kaspersky holds the key for the future, just as Symantec does.

the main thing that uses alot of cpu in kis6.0 is antihacker so if i can get a kav6.0 license cheap for my new pc that could be fine but i find it boring to have the same security program on two computers so i might go for something else on my new pc.
i think light weight suites with all compoants made by one company will do the best.
but i think if they want to put antispam in a suite get a decent one from another company just like avg and drweb did. the antispam in kis6.0 is developed by kaspersky and isnt very good.

As far as hourly updating of KIS. Why not set it to manual.

well i had it set on every 30minutes but changed it to hourly.
i want the lastest updates but the updator uses to much cpu while it updates. i was hoping KL would get it so it would use less CPU but they havent.
with it set on hourly it means i always have the lastest updates so e.g. if i wasnt in and my dad checked his emails it would be up to date.
if i set it on manual then it wouldnt be updated when im not here

I meant set it to manual before gaming. After to hourly or whatever.

    Hi Lodore,
You have tried many more AVs than I have. I notice, however, that you did not include Avira. Did it not run well for you?

Of the ones you mentioned my choice would be NOD. Of course KIS would be the choice, except it seems that KAV is not going to run on my system. Maybe V7 will do better.

So far FPAV is running without problems. I do not know it is there. I still have a hard time getting past the detection rates for some of the favorites here. I remain a fan of Avast Home.

    Regards,
    Jerry

    Hi Lodore,
The trial of F-Prot is going great so far. There doesn't seem to be much in the area of "tweaking" but that is not bad as long as it does well.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Kaspersky is working on their online gaming indeed. It will be tested on their first beta version in about a week. It will be available in KAV and KIS. Also their firewall will be far more fast.
Final r4elease will be out at the end of 2007

    Hello,
I have played several online games on PCs with AVG installed. Never a single microsecond of delay. Usually runs at less than 3,000K.
