How long have you been using NOD32?

About a week now. I've been a license holder for about three years, and have used NOD off and on while trying just about every antivirus known to man. :D I've come to the conclusion that nothing runs better, or protects better, in my opinion, than NOD32. Reliable. No more changing AVs for me.

How and where did you first learn about it?

I first read about it at dslreports' security forum. NOD was still in version one with the alien looking GUI. :) That's also where I first heard about Wilders.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD32?

Before using NOD for first time, I was using NAV 2k something. I can't remember the exact version. This time it was KIS 6.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

I thought it was very strange, especially version 1. :D I thought it was going to be too difficult to configure. I wasn't sure I liked all the modules. I didn't know what the heck IMON and AMON were. It's pretty easy to configure once you get used to it.

How long have you been using NOD32 ?

    2½ years

How and where did you first learned about it ?

Folk in a Usenet security group I used to read kept mentioning it, mostly saying how good it was, but also how difficult it was to configure. This definitely put me off for a while, but then I decided to find out for myself.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?

Preinstalled NAV 2003. Prior to that it was a version of KAV for OS/2

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

Love at first sight. I thought - and still do - that it looked great, had lots of things for me to fiddle with and visually it said - and still does - 'We know what we are doing'.

How long have you been using NOD32 ?

    For 9 months now.

How and where did you first learned about it ?

From my Son around 12 months ago. The web design company he works for uses it.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?

    NAV 2005

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

Thought it was ugly with a hard to use interface. (I soon learned better)

Anything special that you'd like to add , threats that you have seen and only NOD32 (or plus only few others) finds

Nothing really apart from the fact I love it and wouldn't change. Being a gamer I also appreciate its low usage of system resources.

The lack of honesty around here is disappointing. Nobody said something like:

"While looking for game cracks I got infected on my Norton protected PC. I asked on my preferred "underground" forum what easily crackable AV I should use instead and they told me Nod32."

PS Not my story, although I have nothing on those guys. I myself used KAV until I got bored of looking for working license keys whenever they periodically were banning some and I decided to go with their free version.

Please allow me to post my opinion here, though it looks a little off the topic.

NOD32 is so far not as famous as Rising, KV, and other established antivirus products in China. IMHO it shall take a long time before average Chinese consumers get to know the name of it. There's no urgent need to find a proper Chinese name for it until that time.

For me, NOD32 is just fine, because the name is simple and clear.

Trying a lot of brands and Nod32 was one of them.

When I tried it the first time it was the old version which I didn't like at all, but later I tried it again and it was in it's present "form". The first impression then was : this is it (and it lived up to that promise most of the time).

I've been using NOD32 on my home pc for 4 or 5 years now. I'm a network admin and back then we were using Symantec Corporate Edition.

I'm a computer enthusiast/gamer and was becoming increasingly unhappy with the bloat and slowdown occurring with the Symantec product as well as other products such as McAfee. I was searching for something better for my home computer. I think I learned about NOD32 on the [H]ardforums 4 or 5 years ago and decided to give it a try on my home pc and continued to use it for 2 years at home. I was very happy with the performance of my computer when running NOD32.

At work we had a few issues with Symantec. Users would occasionlly lock up when trying to print something in Excel. Also users normal.dot file would frequently get reset. I actually had to create a bat file for users so they could restore their normal.dot file when Symantec would reset it to default. Finally our network actually got infected briefly with NIMDA when it came out because Symantec didn't release a detection for it until around 24 hours after it was hitting.

After a couple years of using NOD32 at home our corporate license of Symantec v.7 was coming up for renewal at work. I elected to go with the Enterprise edition of NOD32 2 years ago and have been very happy with it. No issues to report and we actually found a few viruses on some computers when we removed Symantec and installed NOD32.

Our company 2 year renewal just came up and we've renewed for another 2 years. Very happy with the product. Support is excellent as well and after what I'm reading about Symantec support nowadays I'm really happy about that also.

This is very common . When recently I installed NOD in the network of a local Court , NOD32 found lots of trojans on their computers . They were previously with Panda .

How long have you been using NOD32 ?

    Less than 1 month.

How and where did you first learned about it ?

I had known about it, as well as most other AV products, for years through various web sites, magazine reviews, a couple of friends, and associates.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?

Previously, a confirmed Norton user. Infections were minimal (nothing serious) and, at best, about a once a year occurrence. Further, Norton always managed to clean them thoroughly. Ultimately, though, the latest iteration of Norton blew up (both NAV 2007 and SW Premier) to such an extent that tech support's only solution was "uninstall and re-install" (with NOD32, not a problem.....with Norton, it's an ordeal). After the issue with Norton remained unresolved for several days, I simply gave up and started looking for another solution.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

First = "Yikes!". Second = "Thanks, Blackspear!".

Anything special that you'd like to add...

I sincerely hope that, whatever changes are made, ESET ensures that future versions of their products continue to be as light and conflict-free as the current version.

Prior to NOD32, I downloaded and installed several competing products after *thoroughly removing Norton*. Despite excellent reputations for detection and removal, *none* of those products ran as well as NOD32 on my PCs; they either took forever to install, were resource-intensive, or presented conflicts with other software or services.

How long have you been using NOD32 ?
    Four Days.

How and where did you first learned about it ?
Various Internet Sites that eventually pointed me to here. After browsing the Forum and reading various reviews I decided to transfer to NOD32 when my existing subscription expired.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?
Several over the years including AVG, NAV, CA and most recently PC-cillin.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?
I was apprehensive at first, having read all the hype about it being difficult to set up, not one for beginners etc., but with Blackspears excellent tutorial in reserve, I downloaded the trial version then, using expert setup, had it up and running within a very short space of time. Everything worked first time, the overhead is remarkably low, even when doing an in depth scan, so much so that I upgraded after day one to the full product. [Possibly avoiding the problem being experienced by Trial users having problems getting updates]

Anything special that you'd like to add , threats that you have seen and only NOD32 (or plus only few others) finds
It only discovered an old dormant piece of malware on my initial scan, but picked up every eicar test email.and reacted correctly to every virus test site I visited.
My greatest joy with NOD32 is that if it updates while I am using MSN Messenger,it doesn't disconnect me as PC-cillin would invariably do. I also know that if I have any problems with NOD32 I can always get a speedy reply on here, if it hasn't already been covered.

    * How and where did you first learned about it ?
I won a free subscription on Wilders (Really, I did)

    * What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?
    eTrust from Computer Associates

    * What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?
In 2005 it installed fine, but I had some difficulty in adding the Userid when I renewed. I do like the quietness and efficiency. So much so that I'm adding my other computer and renewing for 2 years this June. :D

How long have you been using NOD32 ?

    A. About six months

How and where did you first learned about it ?

    A. Sick of the problems with the "other guys" products, I googled for "best anti-virus" :D That part is true, of course I got lots of hits, and further research led me to Nod. I think the one that convinced me to try Nod was TopTenREVIEWS.com

What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?

    A. PC-Cillin previous two or three years, Macafee for a short period before that, and Norton before that for several years. Just awful programs. PC-Cillin was the best of the bunch, but it was getting worse.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

    A. When I first saw it I thought it was a little odd. When I first installed and used it, I thought, "Wow, if this software actually works, I've got my computer back!"

Anything special that you'd like to add , threats that you have seen and only NOD32 (or plus only few others) finds

    A. I found out that Nod really DOES work, and I really DID get my computer back.

I hope they don't go the way of others over the years and bloat it, and try to protect our computers by just locking them up.

This forum and the folks who answer our questions make it possible to really take advantage of Nod, and use it to it's fullest potential.

How long have you been using NOD32 ?

About 3 months, although i have now migrated to KAV. Got a license for both, and I still love NOD. Just planning to switch between them, depending who has the upper hand in the comparatives.

How and where did you first learned about it ?

A private torrent site. NOD was the most cracked product there, so i thought it must be good! Admittedly i had the cracked trial for a couple of months, but I went and got a license in the end.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD ?

    AVG free and ZA free.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

    "this is l33t!" :D

The smoothest running AV iv used on my system. I do love Nod, and i will no doubt switch to it again soon! :p

How long have you been using NOD32?
Approximately 15 months. Installed the trial twice (plus trialed a host of other AV solutions) before deciding to buy a 2 year licence in April '06. Once the bugs of ESS beta are solved I'll be purchasing that :thumb: :D

How and where did you first learned about it?
I was looking to replace Norton AV. I searched the internet for "AV testing" sites and found av-comparatives.org. After reviewing the test results I decided to try Kaspersky & Nod32, as they appeared to offer the best protection.

Later, I found the Virus Bulletin site, which gave Eset's AV program more awards than any other. I knew then I had found something rather special.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD?
I used Norton AV for almost the whole time I'd owned a pc. What annoyed me was it was becoming more bloated with each new version, plus trying to completely remove previous versions from the HDD was a nightmare.

Trial copies of Kaspersky's AV & IS suites, Avira, McAffee, AVG and a couple other AV suites were installed before deciding on Nod32.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it?
Nod32 was very different; in so much as it offered many options to the user. Further, I was somewhat daunted by some of the comments of other Nod32 users at the time; it was reported that Nod32 was hard to setup & understand, GUI was ugly etc.

What I discovered was Nod32 wasn't any of these things. It was the options that confused new Nod32 users - most other AV's are install with a defined set of parameters & forget.

Also finding Blackspear's guide was a godsend. Eset should have this guide on their website as part of the installation instructions. I have never found a better set of AV set-up instructions on any other forum or vendor site :thumb:

Anything special that you'd like to add , threats that you have seen and only NOD32 (or plus only few others) finds?
I replaced Norton AV (2006 edition) from my Fathers PC and Nod32 found 3 virii & 5 malware issues on Nod32's first scan... Not sure if this says more about Norton's protection or my Dad's surfing habits :D

Using this anecdote, along with links to the VB100 & AV-Comparatives websites, I've convinced a fair number of work collegues and friends to trial (and then buy) Nod32.

Been using NOD very happily for around 1 and a half years now-bought a two year licence.
I heard about it through the net when I was evaluating which anti virus to buy.
I had previously tried Norton, Bit Defender and McAffee but didn't much like any of them.
If NOD continues to impress I'll extend my licence but I think the competition will be tough.

Big up for Blackspear for his easy to follow set up guide-essential reading!!

    `Mornin people,
First off thanks to all for everything I've learned lurking here unregistered the past year or so.:thumb:

since a few months after XP SP2 came out
    pcperspective.com
    norton internet security
mature (no candy-@** gui) no nonsense program, not a hog

Symantec refused to act the way I instructed it to post SP2. It also told me the pc was infected several times, and couldn't ever fix the problem. I gained a coaster. It would not uninstall either until I learned what to search for and manually delete.
I searched and found Eset and Kerio. That worked well until I upgraded the pc and went to XP x64. Since it's NOD32 + a router. And my only troubles have been the msft updates that occasionally disable my freedom of personal choice.

How long have you been using NOD32?

    Around a week?

How and where did you first learn about it?

From AV-Comparatives... And the fact that my University uses NOD32 (not any more though... They've moved to Panda... Poor them)... Got it as a part of a student rate program here in my country... :D

What was your previous security product prior to NOD32?

Hmm... Lemme think... PC-Cilin, McAfee, Norman, Norton, AVG, AntiVir, Avast!, Kaspersky...

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?

Complicated GUI... But it was well worth it... Scanning time was speedy and the resource load was insignificant...

Anything special that you'd like to add , threats that you have seen and only NOD32 (or plus only few others) finds

Well, for one thing, NOD32 just feels secure... I haven't had any instances of infection yet (as I am at home, safe from my virus mongering University coursemates), so I can't say for sure...

But great job with the light resource load, ESET... Vista even LOADS quicker now... :thumb:

    Around a month I think.

How and where did you first learn about it?
Anandtech forums where some people recommended NOD. Decided to try after my previous antivirus decided not to work.

What was your previous security product prior to NOD32?
Norton Antivirus, Avast and AVG. There was one more antivirus but it has long since died away and I can't remember the name at all.

What was your first impression of it when you saw it ?
    "IMON? AMON? WTF?" o_O

Well nothing except I can only wonder how NOD32 is so light. If every program would be as light as NOD the world would be much better place :D
