Simply put I don't use POP3 for email because I access my account from multiple places and its easier using IMAP to do this. What I want to know is does NOD32 scan incoming and outgoing mail for NOD32? If so, how do I set it up(I want incoming AND outgoing email to have a footer note appened to them confirming that NOD32 has scanned the emails)? Also what email clients are supported?

Lastly why is there so many different parts to NOD32? Surly if AMON (scans any file you open) was setup correctly there would be no need for IMON and EMON(apart from the niffty messages it leaves at the bottom of emails to let you know they have been scanned)?

    Hello Petz,

Currently NOD32 does not allow for scanning of IMAP email (only POP3 & MAPI), therefore you will not be able to append the message to the email when using IMAP. Also, NOD32 does not scan outgoing email even for POP3 - only incoming email.

You are correct in that AMON will catch any infection that you try to open. IMON (POP3) and EMON (MAPI - such as Outlook) are just another level of protection.

    Hope that helps,

Daniel thank you for your reply.

However Im still not clear about this. From what I know MAPI is a mechanism for email application to access both POP3 or IMAP4 accounts. If thats correct would NOD32 not then support IMAP email checking if a MAPI email client is used?

Also becuase I setup NOD32 when using outlook express EMON was not installed. If I start using eudora to test to see if the MAPI extension(EMON) for NOD32 works, how do I then install EMON?

Oh forgot to ask. Is there plains to extend IMON's winsock scanning to include not only POP3 communication but also outgoing SMTP? Just curious, as I like it when I receive emails from people who have there email scanner check thee outgoing emails to me(its just cool).

I don't like signatures in outgoing mails... It haven't any information vaule.

Also - why shoud AV program check outgoing emails? If it knows virus it shoud catch it when it is coming...

    Hi Petz,

    NOD32 does not support IMAP.

The EMON module scans email for MAPI-compatible clients, such as Microsoft Outlook, Exchange, and other MAPI compatible e-mail programs.

You might have to reinstall NOD if you install a MAPI compatible client to get the EMON module. I am not sure on this point as I have never had to do this.

I have heard of no action to include outgoing SMTP scanning into NOD at this time.
