When I install new programs (and I enjoy testing highly recommended, safe, freeware), I find that IMON slows the completed download of a zip or rar file to a crawl, especially when the file is 100% downloaded. It takes about 30 seconds before AMON or IMON analyzes the archive. The file downloads normally until it's 100% completed and then NOD32 takes over. For this period, my keyboard is practically frozen until NOD32 completes the scan of the archive.

The same thing happens when an exe file is launched to install a program. AMON analyzes every unpacked file, and for large programs, that can take a while before the file is extracted to a temp directory, and that's just to prepare the full install. A good example was a 30 mb or so Paint Shop Pro demo version. It took several minutes for NOD32 to analyze the entire extraction to a temp directory

I also use an uninstaller that analyzes every install. When this program is run, it creates a temporary txt file, which AMON analyzes over and over, (since the txt file is constantly updated with registry strings), until the uninstaller analysis is finished, creating quite a CPU logjam for all programs running (the uninstaller, the program I'm installing and NOD32).

I've followed Blackspear's settings, and I'm not complaing about all this AV analysis, because one can't be too sure about unknown dll's and exe files.
However, the length of time it's taking to install programs and download files is problematic.

What's the general recommendation? Right now, I have IMON and AMON set to scan all files, with everything checked in the AMON scanner setup, except "list all files".

    Hello .

AMON doesn't scan archives , IMON does . If you use BS's tutorial , it recommends you use Higher efficency , which might sometimes creates problems.

    Repair Winsock
    Windows XP SP2 only

    Goto Start –> Run
    type cmd and click OK.
    Type netsh winsock reset
Press ENTER . Restart immediately !

Note that there is a space between the commands , example netshSPACEwinsockSPACEreset

After restart , open NOD32's Control Center -> Click IMON and reregisted it to the system

When IMON is ready , open Control Center -> IMON -> Setup -> "HTTP" tab -> Client compatibility and make sure all applications (at least) Internet Explorer (iexplorer.exe) is set on Higher compatibility.

Think about possible conflict . Is there some other security program installed? What was your previous AV product?

An additional possibility is that AMON and IMON are taking a long time because they are set to check "Runtime packers" and "Self-extracting archives". It is possible that the type of files you download tend to have runtime packers embedded within self-extracting archives, which may be causing the delay....

You may try playing around with these options in AMON and IMON to see if they have any effect. Of course, you will want to test them out with a known good program, as opposed to some program you happened to find in a random corner of the internet.

I have everything, and its a lot, set to higher efficiency, and have no problems or slow downs.

No ,absolutely not . AMON will be there to catch what IMON possibly missed to stop :)

I run on Higher compatibility and once IMON simply missed a virus(file infector) but AMON immediatelly poped-up for a virus found in the IE cache
