with similar application filtering thats easy to use.. i set my sister up with outpost and she loved its ease of use.. now she has also went to vista and cant use it any longer.. she doesnt want to mess with rules and other things like that. is there any simple app based firewalls for vista like outpost was?? lns is working well but still requires a lot more work from what im learning than outpost did. hope someone has suggestions. she is also a nod user btw and has still over a year left so she doesnt want to switch to something like kis since she would have to purchase the whole thing and waste this lic. thanks

I understand that you don't want a suite. So, for Vista x86 - Look'n'Stop 2 (beta), Jetico 2 (beta), PC Tools 2 - all rules based, and Jetico is even rule-table based (not recommended for previous OP user). And for Vista x64, well, this is a $1M question. :D . If you have a router, use that, or simply use Vista's native. It has outbound protection (though I'm not certain how good is it). Maybe you should consider using a HIPS with it, like Cyberhawk? Well, these are my 2c...

    Regards.

but my point is she doesnt want to really have to deal with rules.. if she has to for certain apps i guess i can try to talk her through it.. she wants something like outpost was where it was primarily application based. and needed very little "other" help to still work well..

i think ZoneAlarm has a current beta for Vista.

KIS's firewall is as close to Outpost as youll get (afaik), but since you dont want suite...

lol yeah im beginning to feel that way.. i personally an trying lns right now and like it although i just cant get certain apps port cofig right. no matter the way i configure them they say they are not open. she just doesnt want to get into stuff like this.

she prob will give kis a go to see how well that works for her. i know nav 2007 is also an option but i said a few years ago i would never ever put a symantec product on another machine ever.. but i have heard the newer nav2007 is supposedly better but i am still afraid of what it will do to the overall system like the old ones did..

other than this it doesnt seem to be to much else worth trying out...
