Nod32 Security Suite v3.0 Screenshots from cebit

Let me clarify this issue. I can only speak for myself, but I'm sure many other disgruntled Eset customers speaking up in this thread will agree. I'm not complaining about the delay of the next version. Even though it is disappointing to have to wait over a year, it is understandable as to why. I am not calling for Eset to hurry development and risk the integrity of the final product. I would rather wait for a quality product then a prematurely released one ridden with bugs. That is not really the issue. The real issue is the lack of information given by Eset to its customers about the new version. As has been metioned many times, we have been teased with the new version since Cebit of last year, and were given the impression to expect it much sooner than has been the case. The position of Eset on this matter is counterproductive, leaving their customers and fans disappointed and reflecting poorly on Eset. To reiterate, I'm not asking for a specific timetable, rather a broad timeframe, a general idea of when to expect it. As a basic rule, ignoring customers is bad business practice. Similarly, teasing customers with info about a new product they've effectively paid for and giving them a false impression of when to expect it only to then ignore legitimate requests for information is surely illadvised. Eset is not a bad company and there is no doubt they develop an excellent product. However, the recent behavior of Eset in this regard is a disservice to their customers and a detriment to themselves.

I remember back in the mid-90s when vaporware was a given.
That being said - be careful what you wish for; if/when ESET releases 3.0 as a suite and decides it's time to raise prices, there will be a new thread: "I wish they just came out with v2.8 instead".
I'm happy with their current version. Most posters here use a layered approach anyway, so I don't agree with the way the mud-slinging towards ESET is turning out in this thread. Patience, people!

 

I remember ESET giving a teaser of what's to come, I certainly don't remember ESET ever promising any time line for a release.

I am more than content with version 2.7, it protects my system very nicely.

Now I'm wondering if anyone actually reads these posts. Again, it's not about the product, so stop using that as a counter point. It is about the lack of information and how irresponsible it is to treat your customers like they are.

Really? I might go to a doctor and have that checked out then. It was nearly a year ago at Cebit 2006. You remember, I guess, what you choose to remember.

 

I have a license for NOD32. That's it. No more no less. I like this AV very much. It does its job extremely well on this box. I don't give a sh.. about future plans untill it's time to renew/or not to renew this license. I'll make a descision then: keep it or leave it.
My box won't run better or worse now if I know yet about future plans of Eset.
Cebit is a year ago now, next week there is a new one. I wonder what you (complaining) guys did in the mean time

I think the two positions are valid.

You can, on one hand, want to know what are future plans, because, as some said, it's a very negative strategy not to let users know nothing about a product, especially for the users that are renewing and so have to make a decision. Then, it is nice to know how your product will evolve and if it will keep being effective regarding appearance of threats etc. Another thing in favor of this position is the fact communications make users feel as they're regarded by the company as important. A company that says nothing can be said to disrespect its users or at least not regard them very high.

Now, on the other hand, Nod is already a good product, and I agree there's no urge to move to another version. Plus, when you make announcements and have delays, users also complain. Also it's useless to make public statements if you have to modify them every other (timespan) because of delays, and can give a worse image to the public (and especially the press) than just saying nothing (or that it will be out when it's ready).

What would really make me laugh is ESET releasing the v3 on this year's CeBIT. I don't care myself since I'm not that obsessed with v3 release dates, and have learnt to make a difference between a company and a product (in this case, i don't mind ESET policy -whatever it is- and have no real opinion about it, and am happy about NOD so I use it), but it would be worth a laugh

 

But the main question remain: did Eset promise an exact timeline?
And if the answer is yes, please inform us too about the promised release date

I challenge anyone to find a post made by an Eset rep stating a time frame in any of the past Cebit and\or Nod 3.0 threads posted to this forum.

They may have indirectly and\or innoncently teased many a user with the Cebit expo last year but there has never been a timeframe given publically. In fact this whole back and forth has been going on for almost a year now and this post made a year ago should have been the end of the discussion. However....that's not near as interesting as posturing back and forth with each other un-doubtedly.

ESET was started in 1992 as per www.eset.com

They have developed excellent antivirus in 14 years.

Is it easy to make excellent security suite in short time period ?

Firewall, Antispyware, AntiSPAM, all modules need to be excellent.

Just I was thinking that every thing will be developed in house only or they will use engine from other companies ?

i tend to agree with n8 here,

they had the basis of the program at cebit 2006, surely...

if they only said it 6 months ago, you can easily just say its in the making, but to have those screenshots and presentations of it, a year ago.... seems unfair to customers not to have released it yet.

I browsed the official website of CeBIT 2007 just now, and got some more information about ESET's new products. Here are the pics

According to Ryan on the Cybernet forum, "there will be two different versions available: NOD32 Antivirus and the Eset Security Suite." In his opinion, "They (ESET) are finally stepping out of the 'antivirus only' ring by offering a top-notch spyware and firewall alternative to users."

A CeBIT Eset press release indicates an antispyware module. My guess is that the info he has is dated.

Looks like ESET is going all the way to provide an "all-in-one baby care kit" this time, just like Kaspersky and Norton has already been done.

To be frank, I personally don't like those big suites.
