yep, it seems a beta will be released.

it will be funny if its rubbish after all the talk, too much talk really.....lets hope the product lives up to the hype.

sure people moaned when spam was needed to be purchased in dr.web, my 3 years spam came free because i added a year onto my licence, but how will eset price their firewall and spam, will it be "wow, such a good price" or will it be "no way am i paying that, i dont even want the spam and the firewall is just basic!"

either way, still beta if its released and lets hope it all turns out for nod users.

    ----
with nod32 being only 4 stands away from Dr.Web in the same hall, no stealing ideas from our new technology *lol* :D

from what i read there i don' see what's so unique about this suite in comparaison to other suites (we'll see about resource usage & slow downs). but aren't all suites integrated and all the modules working together, i mean that's kind od the concept of a suite?

i dont think it has anything that other suites dont have,

i think its just nod with spam and a firewall and they calling it smart security, we know eset will keep it resource-happy.

i thought eset would have brought something else into it to make it unique compared to others, but at the moment... i see no information to support this.

i can see people going for it (depends on price to current customers) but then i see the other sort of people, thinking "outpost is better than this firewall and i dont need the spam"

only time will tell how it turns out, i must say i hate the name "smart security 2007" if that is infact what it will be called.

With the interface getting an overhaul, I can definitely see ESET breaking into the mainstream market with this new version. There will be an antivirus only version available of course, so everyone should be happy. Personally, I think the current interface is fine, but I can see how it would deter some. I've been waiting a long time for this! :)

is the firewall and spam nods own technology?

    Agreed :thumb:
    Some things:
    - Brand-new or improved (?) antimalware engine with enhanced heuristics.
    - IMON will be replaced with a better module (no more LSP/winsock hooks?).
    - IDS module (?) which could be another source of information for the heuristics engine.
Also, we´ll have to see the new GUI for the AV and FW and the options offered.

lets hope they use some of the great ideas from the nod32 wish list thread
i want better selfprotection and a exclusion list for the on demand scanner.
i hope the new interface is good.
    i personaly cant wait!

Oh for sure, I'm very glad they didn't rush the product out and took their time too! Hopefully it will retain the level of customization while making it easier for new users to pick up the program. Possibly some "silent scanning" templates similar to Blackspear's would be very nice as an installation option.

Note that the BETA will start in April which doesn't mean the final version is ready. As it is not final , something can change and it's no worth to create such a thread. It will take some time til the product gets published out of beta ;)

What is with AV vendors and these utterly stupid suites? I don't need a software firewall, I don't get enough spam to need to filter it, I don't need an email scanner, I am not so terrified of viruses to need an HTTP scanner, I don't even really need a real time scanner. An on demand AV scanner is sufficient and it doesn't need to scan for so called "unwanted" programs or for spyware which I don't get. "Unwanted programs" may be wanted by some as you know what you are installing and why and an AV should not get in your face about it. An AV should just be an AV and nothing else thank you.

So, I say "ho hum". Now if someone was announcing a really good software firewall and AV for my old 98SE computer...that I would like so that I could take it out from behind router and connect it directly to the internet. For a networked 98SE computer, with file sharing, a suite like this NOD one might be useful but most suites (I don't know about this one) don't work on 98SE and AV and software firewall vendors are dropping any support for that OS yet that is the one OS where some of this suite stuff would be useful.

Yeah I know that the final could take awhile to be released and I didn't mean that Blackspear should create it during the beta release. What I meant was this, when the final is eventually released our Blackspear will likely be hard at work creating such a thread for NOD's user community.

Hope that the beta is not too buggy. :p :D
