It is currently in closed beta and more news will be announced soon.

 

I find the article very amusing. Its basically saying, yes we have finally come to the conclusion that our product is not going anywhere unless it has anti-malware. No one wants best-of-breed, rather they just want a single product that works with all the protection engines included.

Agnitum... another follower of the Security Suite market leader Norton Internet Security.

contains updated information on the product roadmap, Vista support plans, and the new approach to anti-malware.

 

... and the main question is what anti-virus software technology they licenced from.
My guess is AVG, which I do not like.

I know the answer, but I can't tell because I was bound by the non-disclosure agreement. So please wait for the official announcement. It won't take that long like Ad-aware.

Is Agnitum releasing a "SUITE ONLY" product from now on? Or will customers still have a choice?

OK, for example.....is this going to be one of those deals where users are FORCED to "install" the AV component, even if they disable and don't USE it (i.e. - like most "all-in-one" suites seemingly require these days) ? Or will users be required TO use it (as though somehow it is "built-in" technology incorporated into and as a part of the main core of the firewall), and run it alongside or in place of the AV of their choice (if they have a different AV that they prefer)

Or....will they have different versions of Outpost, and is this going to be a CHOICE for customers, kind of like Online Armor allows for (with two versions - OA without antivirus or OA with antivirus) ?

they will still have the standalone Outpost Pro; theyre separate products.

Hm...the answer to whether customers will have a choice of not can be found from the following paragraph from the Feb 07 newsletter:

So, there will be new versions of Outpost Firewall AND the Security Suite for Vista, both with new engines and new UI.

 

if you read the blog through the link provided......they have mentioned that they'll continue to make standalone firewall even after release of security suite......
which is a good news to me as well............simply because users like us who use their own favourite AV can continue to use the benefit of their excellent firewall......
anyhow zonealarm is helping them by making those spitting-bug versions...

 

I am very very disappointed with Agnitum.
The new Outpost Security Suite has the WEAKEST Anti-virus engine you can imagine. Of course, maybe it is also the cheapest engine to license.

Please note that Outpost Security Suite beta has not been officially released to the public yet.

 

Their anti-trojan, Tauscan wasn't very highly rated. I do have it enabled (it is the anti-spyware plug-in to the firewall now). I have had several false positives with scans. I'll stick to the firewall only when the suite is released.

 

So, you mean that there is a chance to change the anti-virus engine after the beta period? I think not.

Since the beta has not been officially released to the public yet, I wonder why you know that the antivirus engine is the weakest.

 

I don't think this is the point as you already have said that you also know the name of the engine.

What you are trying to do here is simply NOT done Joter
No matter how you feel about this (detection performance, "Tauscan being the only reference for doing the 'AntiSpyware part', .. ..)

It seems like you aren't sure about this all either so why don't you drop this attitude .. this was/is a Private Beta Team and apparently you weren't included ..

changing an Antivirus Engine to another engine, from within the program itself? .. Gdata .. and that's so far it I guess.
