Has anyone tested ZoneAlarm's 7.0 firewall in regard to its Advanced Network and Program firewall and the Operating System firewall? How do these components stack up against other firewalls? I am trying out ZoneAlarm anti-spyware with the "slimmed-down" firewall (as opposed to ZA Pro). It seems to offer more protection than the free but a bit less bloat than the Pro. Thanks.
If you are comparing the ZA Antispyware and ZA Pro, there is no difference between the two types of ZA in terms of the networks firewall, outbound protection (incl. advance component control) and OS Firewall. What firewall and OS Firewall features you get in ZA antispyware is also what you get in ZA Pro, even in the 15 day free trial of ZA antispyware. I am not sure what you mean by "slimmed-down" firewall in the trial as there should be none, The only difference between ZA Pro and ZA antispyware is that ZA Pro contains additional privacy features, Identity Lock and a one year subscription to the identity protection center. Identity Protection Center is a service provide by a third-party security company which monitors for fraudulent use of the user's U.S. issued credit cards. ZA's component control and OS firewall helps increase the security coverage of your computer drastically. OS firewall can help prevent installation of malicious software and together with component control helps stops most, if not all, types of programs trying to leak out of your computer.
IMO, the ZAAS and ZAAV are the best deals for ZA instead of the Pro. This eliminates the bloat with less cost and you still get the advanced firewall features. I used ZAAS last year with NOD32 and this year I changed to the AV version since it added Kaspersky.
Thanks for the replies- What I meant was the Advanced Network and Program firewall and the Operating System firewall of ZoneAlarm as compared to similar features of other firewall brands.
There have been many leak tests done on various firewall products by different people. ZA's paid product ranks at the top of the list, ahead of competitors such as Kerio or Outpost.
Just review these results: http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php You will have a good overview of leaktests and ZAPro (same firewall as the spyware version) Cheers, Fax
Could you provide more facts regarding these: "many leak tests" acr1965, while "unhappy_viewer" will try to provide us with many tests by different people , check out these two links: http://www.firewallleaktester.com/termination.php http://www.pcflank.com/pcflankleaktest.htm http://www.pcflank.com/leaktests_info.htm http://dl2.agnitum.com/pr/Outpost_vs_leaktests.pdf
Thanks for those links. Has anyone seen test results of ZA 7.0? The pcflank tests must not have been so good as ZA blocked it as a "spy site".
I've done my own test. After deleting PCflank from Z.A.'s spylist.... Z.A. 7.0 simply failed the leak test. In other words, to prevent you testing their firewall... they simply block the site. Now that's what I call brilliant engineering.
