in other words: false positives; files that do not pose a danger per se because they e.g. do not fully work.

Hey everyone, just a quick question. Since I use AVG 7.5 ISS which has the Antispyware Component in it. How concerned should I be about the 2 out of 10 score that AVG Anti-Malware received for Polymorphic Virus detection? Are these type of Viruses rare, or more prevalent today? I also run Cyberhawk, but I'm not sure its Behavioral Detection would catch this kind of thing. I'm very pleased by the way with AVG's progress. I was informed by one of the Grisoft Techs that more improvements are in the works and to keep an eye out on their website for them. Take care and thanks in advance for your help.

please stay on topic and do not get personal.
anyone which would miss a higher note (e.g. at school) for very little would complain.

As has been said here many times before, signature counts are done differently by the various AVs. Some products add each and every single variant separately to their database whilst others add one name, but update that with the variations e.g. 1 signature = 10 variants.

This must be a very slow pc because even my outdated 3200 Athlon XP can scan that in less than 50 minutes using all files.

As I have learned, comments like this serve no useful purpose. All the vendors looked good in this last test. And with the seminar that IBK will be attending with other malware vendors, it looks like the future is only going to get better for all of us.

Polymorphic viruses aren´t common these days. They require certain coding skills which aren´t found in the average malware writer.

Thank you lucas1985, I just didn't know how much of a concern this should be with using AVG, but you put my mind at ease.

Do you think so for the first scan? It's a four years old P4 2.0ghz 512mb ram XPsp2. The latest full scan took about 65m.

Now I'm back to GData AVK 2007 again as I said in my previous post. :)

that i know - still surprises me that the difference in 6 months is only 419 'signatures'. not that it matters, symantec did very well in this test

maybe the number does not indicate the number of signatures but the number of names. as symantec detects a lot with names like Backdoor.Trojan or Backdoor.Rbot the low number is understandable.

the av in ZA is kav. and AV tests are the kinds of tests IBK usually does, so i would see no need for that.

Hopefully this won't be too personal.

Our own IBK is becoming a recognized authority in the field. It seems that more and more publications are recognizing him for his work :thumb: :thumb: Quite an accomplishment. Bravo.

Somehow I think money will follow...

    Fame, Fortune....

Are there young hot groupies for the top tier malware superstars?
