    Hi Acronis Support Team,

Can anyone tell me WHY E-Mail notifications do NOT work for Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail accounts?? It seems like an easy FIX but for some reason NOONE can explain it to me, what exactly makes these E-Mail hosts FAIL, please don't tell me SMTP servers or Ports I've tried them all!!

    Thanks for any info,

    Steve

    Hello,
I understand your frustration, but the problem is probably with your internet service provider not with Acronis. Many ISP's have those "psuedo" email domains blocked due to spam. Email your ISP and see if this is correct. Who do you use?

    Hey FBMachines

As I stated in my POST, the problem is NOT with my ISP, I personally use COMCAST.NET & have used BELLSOUTH.NET, the problem is with TI and WEB Server based E-Mail's such as Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail. It does NOT work, so it's not an ISP problem it's a problem between TI & web based E-mail services

    Steve

Try a FREE hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail account with your ISP whatever it is & tell me what U get oK?

Perhaps because TI is using SMTP? Web Mail tends to use proprietary dialogues over port 80. The 'standard' here is SMTP and that is how I would expect a generic email client to be implemented.

I have seen cases where webmail access does also support SMTP, but this tends to a) use non standard ports (which might cause firewall difficulties) and b) insist on using SSL - which a standard SMTP client would not necessarily implement.

I think the problem is sending the email. Acronis uses smtp based send so try using the smtp mail server of your ISP. You may need to supply login userid/password.

    Example: smtp.comcast.net
    smtp.mail.wowway.com
    smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com

I have had to enclose the recipient email in <>. <backup.reports>@mydomain.com

    Hope this helps.

Yes but note that if the SMTP Server requires SSL (like say GMail does) you may have problems.
