    Re: Future Changes to Nod32

Sorry for the intrusion, I didn't read the whole thread and really have not done much of a search, I don't really have time, but is there any update as to when version 3 will be released, the last thing I heard was they were going to release it around the time Vista was released, Vista has been out for a couple of weeks now, just trying to get some kind of update. Also is the current NOD32 compatible with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit version, and will version 3 be compatible with this windows version?

Hi . Yes , the current version is compatible for all x64 versions , including Windows XP Pro x64 and Windows Vista Ultimate x64 . There is no official information about this but ESET was one of the first to release x64 versions and there is no reason for them not to have such versions . I myself am sure there will be such version :thumb:

What do you mean ? NOD32 was able to protect all versions of Vista (incl x32 and x64 even from its BETA) and from the official release of 2.7 . Even then there were so little AV products ready for Vista and not all of them were for x64 . NOD32 was for able to meet Vista with no problems even with the PatchGuard protection . They even got an award from ICSA labs for protecting perfectly Vista x64 :thumb:

It is a joke Hitech,:D no one can dispute Esets ability to use their savy to be prepared for emerging technology. Still have a very sweet spot in my heart for them and just wanted to bust your chops. I will be frank though, you have to admit, folks have been very, very, patient, on waiting on a suite. I really hope it is soon because it will not shock me to see all my cronies way down in the AV forum, change and move up here. The long awaited suite holds much anticipation for a lot of us. I for one, will be the first standing in line for a license. Hopefully from you.:)

just to add KIS 6.0 is also vista 64bit compatible, i just wanted to know if NOD32 also was, My main question however was when is NOD32 3.0 going to be released, i remember it was supposed to be released sometime around fall of 2006, then around the time Vista was released, at this rate perhaps it will be released at microsofts next operating system release ( just joking about that ) but seriously does anybody know when it should be available?

I have made no secret to the fact that I think ESET is wronging their customers with the lack of information regarding version 3, and I still think they are. It is ridiculous that we are told it would be released at cebit and we are still waiting. I understand things happen but keep those that actually care in the loop, else those numbers will dwindle. That being said, NOD32 continues to be one of the best two, if not the best, AVs I have ever used. It gives a new meaning to the phrase to the term 'silent but deadly.' It gained a step up from Dr Web as far as I'm concerned by how light it is. Dr Web has the well-documented memory issue, but my music would momentarily skip sometimes when I was browsing the web. Not so with NOD32. Both are great, and I await each new version.

I think that the long delay of v3 is due to Vista and GUI issues. I´d guess that the malware engine is almost finished.
Also, v2.7 might have been draining resources (halted the development of v3 to make v2.x Vista compatible).
I would say that we could start seeing very polished betas in mid/late May.
So, seems that ESET is playing safe. First, put in the customers´ hands a solid Vista version of its award-winning engine with some improvements. Then, release a brand-new product.

Agreed. You throw a date out there, don't meet it, need to fess up to your customer base.

My license is up soon and KIS is looking good. I'm tired of dealing with 3-4 vendors for security when I get a FP, have a compatibility issue etc... have much better things to do with my time.

I'll only be buying one suite this year, hopefully Eset puts something on the table soon.

I would actually think it would be the firewall that is the most difficult part of the entire project. There shouldn't be any issue with Vista and GUI design unless they are doing something completely unpractical. From the looks of the old screenshot, it should automatically work in Vista no problem (native).

This is likely too. The firewall (IDS module?) will become another source of information for the behaviour analysis.
I blame Vista for the following reasons:
-Major overhaul of the code in late 2005.
    -UAC.
-PatchGuard. Making drivers for the firewall and other low-level stuff is much more difficult with PatchGuard.

In general, there are many people where time plays a role in their deciding which security software to go with, whether that be for personal use, for reselling, or simply for recommending to others. They find themselves in a dilemma of sorts, whether they are upgrading to paid software and do not to act too soon if the new security software is worth waiting for but at the same time do not want to wait to long, or whether their current security software licenses are soon to expire and thus they need a time frame to consider their options. Whatever the case may be, it would seem that providing any indication as to when to expect the new security software would be helpful and much appreciated by most people in this situation and also by others that are simply eager to try it out and upgrade. That being said, it would seem to be in the self-interest of the company developing and marketing the software to provide some sort of time frame for expected release. I'm not asking for a specific date, as I think there is good reason against providing that, but rather a general idea of when to expect it will be available, within the next month or so, within the next several months, sometime this year, next year and beyond? Providing no feedback whatsoever is assuredly bad marketing and leaves their fans and potential customers disappointed.

Still no comment from someone at Eset? I guess I can't make my case any better than I have. My rationale is clear and coherent, my reasoning is sound, and my message is sensible. Don't know what else to say. Let me just say that you (Eset) are not doing yourselves any favors here.

This thread is like a computer malfunction when you have three options : Ignore , Abort , Retry.
    1. You keep typeing R asking about some suite v3 ! (where did you get that from ?:ninja: )
    2. Of course ESET is pressing I to give you an answer. :ouch:  :ouch:
    3. So , the final solution is A. If not return to step 1.:D

    Best regards.

lmao ugly, that made me laugh. The utter humor of apparent futility. But it is not just the desire to know that drives me, it is the principle of the matter and the fact that another is acting in a seemingly irrational manner.

I'm starting to think this thread should be closed. Eset will release information in its own time, and this thread is turning into a senseless beating of a deceased equine. Can we get a lock, please?

Ah, yes. Yet another NOD32 user who is willing to fall in line with ESET as a reaction. What is wrong with questioning? What is wrong with wanting to know information, since we are in fact the people that make ESET able to exist. Since it has been nearly a year since we were promised v3, I think it is time to start up uprising. ~snip~ Blackspear

Sorry, had to come back for this one. Personally who cares when it comes, as long as it comes right. Just what the hell do you expect out of a suite that Nod doesnt do now. Gee, antispam. Firewall? Most now just use our Nat one. I myself, hope they develop some sort of HIPS into the suite, and keep the spam out. As for when? When its ready.

Oh hell, I dont need to wait a month, I just made my FINAL choice for protection and knew it all along.

No, I'm not a lockstep user as you're insinuating. Last year's Cebit teaser and the information blackout that followed still chaps my arse and I feel it was an irresponsible move a la early Windows Vista dev updates and Duke Nukem Forever screenshots. I find it just as irresponsible to kick and scream about an unreleased product when the one I'm using works just fine for me right now. When 3.0 is finally released I will re-evaluate my license, not before. I will be taking the development time vs. product progress metric into account.

I still stand behind my earlier thought that this thread should be locked. It really serves no purpose other than speculation or flamebait now that the information is so old.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let's keep the personal banter out of this thread and keep on topic.

    Thanks

Everyone seems to be miss understanding. I don't care about version the product. I only care about information regarding version 3. Why? Because we were teased with it like a dog to a chew toy and Cebit 2006. If we were never given any tentative dates then there would be no issue, but we were. I think I have a right to be upset. I have made that known for over a year now. ESET is a bad company with a fantastic product. A little respect to the user is I'll I'm saying.

-AshG- My apologies for my comments, they were nor appropriate. However, understand that change can come from dissent, so trying to squash it underneath you boot is not always the best policy.

You really don't need it , trust me ! Well , actually , you personally is different from the average user , but the real average user will know a date when v3 is release and will constantly post "When ! Why not early? Why this and why that?"Constantly moaning.ESET will be worry and will not make the product the best as it should be.What would happen if ESET delay the the release because everythings happens - again annoyed users who can't understad exactly why the version has been delayed.I am sure the core of the new version is finished but the product needs further testing and polishing to be released bug-free , stable and qualitive as it should be.E.g. Vista was released and ESET should concentrate more on the new version and make it 100% compatible with everything new in Vista and since there is nothing broken in the latest v2 , ESET developers/staff should stop working so seriously on v3 for a while.

What changed when other AV companies gave more (than the necessary) info to its users? Nothing , IMO. The fact their users knew more early didn't make the program better. You should understand that when there is something to be said , ESET will definitely not keep it in secret but will let all of us know it :thumb:

I don't think you even read my post, which is weird because you quoted it. I could care less about the new version, so the fact that it will be a quality release it useless it me. I care only about the company and how it is treating it's users. We were told it would be released one year ago at Cebit 2006. Was it? No. Were we given any information why ESET did not keep their word? No. Delays happen, true, but it is inexcusable to keep customers in the dark that have been waiting so long past a date that ESET gave us.
