Does anyone know why this is updated? Or has it been merely re-released in an effort to catch those who haven't installed it yet?
Or have I got it wrong?
My copy of windows is genuine. It passes the MS validation test. Why do I need this?

    Hello,
    You don't need that spyware.

I guess you could try "add remove programs". It may be one of those MS gems that, once installed, cannot be uninstalled.
While I was trying to find more info on it, I found this site http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/04/26/disable-and-remove-windows-genuine-advantage-notifications-nag-screen/
which looks somewhat promising. I have security centre set to "notify but don't download or install" (which I recommend, despite being non-expert) and have now configured it to ignore this one.
I'm pretty sure it is the "notify' tool, not just a "validate" tool. Ms are a little short of easy to follow advice on this.

i'm choosing not to install this just yet. seem to remember their were scare stories around when it first came out with people with genuine copies of windows being told they were not genuine. may have been just 'stories', but i think i'll wait a little while and let others find out any problems...

If you have a pirate copy of Windows, you'll already be wary of this and won't install it. If you have a genuine copy of Windows, this tool is of no benefit to you whatsoever and you should NOT install it under any circumstances, unless you feel that your genuine copy of Windows may spontaneously become a pirate copy overnight.

As MrK already said, it's spyware and should be avoided completely.
