I need some help understanding how it is that I read a lot of posts about NOD32 missing malware and yet it seems to always be on top of the test siteso_O
Most people are finding the missed baddies with KAVo_O So what is the dealo_O?? I am running NOD32 on one of my Vista machines and am wondering if I need to bite the bullet and get another kis6 license!!! o_O

No single av app catches everything. If nod32 ranks among the top in tests then clearly it is not missing that much malware.

Agreed; However, it is disheartening to hear ill of your AV app. I will say that since I left Norton years ago it has been smooth sailing for me, no gunk on my rig. Also  I don't have the same surfing habits either:ninja:
    So there that is!!!:thumb:

    Another fine example!!!:thumb:
So how good are these tests anyway? Is the real world excluded from the test setup??

Let me word it differently. Can an av be "customised" to excel in testing, but be
    mediocre in the real world??

Well, in latest comparative test (av-comparatives) NOD has lost a "+". From "advanced+" to "advanced" while KAV mantained its score (i.e. adv+)....

Something has happen lately to NOD. Tough just scoring less one month does not mean you have to trash your antivirus :p

Symantec and NOD32 miss the + for very little.
and some others got A also by a little.
it was a hard decision, but the levels are what they are - without making exceptions.

Below the table that shows previous tests, look for "To get an overview of the comparatives, we summarized them in tables. You can find them here", it's just above the advertisement.

I will be interested to see how the freebies compare with some paid AVs.
The only ones that rated Standard were Dr Web and McAfee. I am not especially surprised by Dr Web, but am a little by McAfee.

I am also disappointed in NOD. It has been a couple of years since they were not Advanced +.

    Summary:
-Only Antivir, Trustport and KAV-based AVs (eScan, F-Secure, Kaspersky and GData) got Advanced+ checkmark.
-Symantec and NOD 32 slipped from Advanced+ to Advanced checkmark.
-Avast, AVG, BitDefender, F-Prot, Fortinet, Norman obtained Advanced checkmark.
-McAfee descended from Advanced to Standard checkmark.
-Dr. Web keeps the Standard checkmark.
-Microsoft is not up to the level. :p

You are right-----and my question still remains. Is it possible to optomise an av to ace these tests and be so-so for end users? Just wondering??
