ouch Phant0m, so in the long run SPI isn't really stable. i run a game server and bittorrent on a 10mbps down / 1mbps up broadband connection. is it safe then to disable look'n'stop SPI and use only the SPI from my router? (im on this setup all the while) will it really make any difference actually having both on?

Take note that Frederic states Vista 64-bit isn’t supported, and “major change: drivers need to be certified and signed”. Unfortunately? Enforced Driver signing in Vista x64 will prevent loading of any unsigned driver, this is mainly for security and stability reasons.

Having carefully read what has been said and understanding, there is some ways around this Enforced Driver signing ordeal. There is the F8 boot option, of course I’m not sure if it still applies to the shipped Vista, and it is only a temporary solution to have Vista load the unsigned drivers for this windows session.

For a fixed solution you could execute a commandline in CMD running under administrator privileges: bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

This works in the shipped Vista, earlier versions uses different bcdedit parameters.

Phantom, I am running 32bit Viista. I tried the install a 1/2 hr ago and still a no go. It is definetly a driver conflict with my nVidia network drivers. (15.00). I could not find the MS drivers that are working.

 

When I switch users Look N Stop never starts.
I log on and L n S starts up but when someone like my wife wants to switch from my account to her account (both administrators) L n S has to be started manually, is there a reason for this or something I can do to change this?

1) Unfortunately, there are some other issues to support these features right now, so I need to find another way to detect them.
Additionally, I'm watching to leaktests under Vista to know which ones are still relevant, and how they can be defeated for any version of Windows. Not sure the current design could apply to Vista.

2) These feature are implemented the same way as the other ones, so the same applies...

15.00 is strange as a version number.
To go further I need the load order of the drivers. The problem could be simply one of Look 'n' Stop drivers not loaded at the right time. And this is usually not so hard to fix.

Yes, it applies to Vista I64, I've tested that on some non-signed sound drivers.
I will check this, to know if at least Look 'n' Stop drivers are compatible (requires anyway new drivers, x32 are not compatible as is).

Do you mean this offer a way to avoid pressing F8 during startup ?

Are you talking about FUS, or simply about another user logging but only one running at a time ?

Over a brief conversation with BuzzStone in PM, I was told there was NO entry found in the LoadOrder list belonging to the Look ‘n’ Stop product - while it was installed...

 

Yes a fixed / permanent solution to avoid the hassle of using this F8 boot option on every start…

In that case we can suspect an installation issue, but some error dialog box should normally open during the installation, and if the drivers are not found in the registry (with Load Order) it is strange they are affecting the connection.

A quick solution is to use an ‘Advanced mode’ – ‘Service’ selection found under ‘Automatic start’ on the ‘Options’ screen...

I'm using Windows Vista and using the L n S verison 2.06.
This happens with the FUS or just by logging off and then logging back on, either way I have to manually start L n S on the other account.

There are some restriction under Vista to write intp [HKLM].
But normally during the installation (which is run in Admin mode), if you had chosen to start Look 'n' Stop at startup, the installer succeeds to write into [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] for all users.

Could you check if you have a Look 'n' Stop entry for both users in this registry location ?

Service mode is not available under Vista because the way it is implemented in Look 'n' Stop (starting a GUI appli in Desktop 0) is no longer working under Vista.

Under my wifes account I was able to get L 'n' S to start automatically but I also kept receiving an error message that the application filter was unable to start.
At that point I just decided to start over so I removed L n S then reinstalled the firewall, now everything is working fine.

 

This is strange, the first time you installed the 2.06b1, was it a fresh install or did you install it on top of a 2.05p3, patched for Vista ?

Fresh install, we've only had this computer for a couple of weeks.
There arent too many programs you can download with Vista right now, especially firewalls.
Look N Stop 2.06 is the first firewall to be installed on this PC, the only other one that was running before I turned it off was the Vista firewall.

Installed and running great so far on 2003. Got a bsod the first time round with all advanced options enabled. So i disabled all advanced options and it then ran fine. I've slowly enabled all the advanced options so far except dll detection with no more bsod's which leads me to believe issue must be with the dll detection. I read that the dll detection is disabled in vista and i've also read that vista is based on the 2003 so that might explain it.

 

Yes, I think some users reported that before.
One question though: did you use the 2.05p3 under 2003 with the same options enabled ? and if you did, was it working ?

Hi Frederic.

I'm using Windows Vista. I installed LnS version 2.05p3 and after entering my registration code I updated to version 2.06 beta 1. However, after rebooting my PC and looking at the "Register" tab, both the 'Email' and 'Serial Number' boxes are blank.

Does this mean that the 2.06 beta 1 is not registered? If not, is there a way to get it registered with Vista doing an upgrade, or do I have to get a new code via the registration page?

2.05p3 ran alright for me with 2003. Watch dns calls, watch thread injection and dll detection did cause me problems tho. I found i could enable 1 of those 3 features and everything would seem to run ok most of the time, if i tried to enable more than 1 i'd get a bsod with an error related to the lnsfw driver.

 

You'll probably have to do what i did and email support for your new serial number.
