    Acronis True*Image*Home version 10.0 (build*4,871)
    winxp w/ sp2
    Dlink 650 wireless router. but all pc are wired connections.

    I am trying to backup to a network drive. each time i receive the following error message:

    E00070004: Failed to write data to the archive file.
    a possible reason might be poor media quality

    the drives that i am attempting to backup to are new seagate drives and ati home has no apparent difficulty making backup files when they are attached directly to the pc that i am backing up. it is only when i am attempting to save the backup across my local lan.

    any thoughts?

    is there anyone with some thoughts on my previous posto_O please please please.

    I have read through numerous past posts about this error. Apparently this seems to be a common problem with Acronis. all of the privious posts are much earlier posts regarding earlier versions. the acronis solution seems to call for an update to the latest version and build which i apparently have already. I have tried most of the suggestions of many people about some solutions or workarounds they (claim to) have found but it was worthless.

    so i am lost. btw... a direct quote from Acronis support page: "The forum is read daily by the Acronis Support Team and the Wilders Security team, who are standing by to help you if you have a question."

    welll i have a question and it has been a week since my first post - is anyone around at acronis who can help with my probo_O? i hate to double post this prob but i don't want it dying on the vine either. what is a reasonable wait time for an acronis dude to help?

    anyone have any thoughts?

    thanks so much acronis for your professionalism with respect to your prompt and informative response to my two previous posts. I believe i like your applications for which i paid hard earned cash, but i think your commitment to customer service sucks.

    I am not certain why i am waiting 2 weeks for a response. I suppose it would certainly be considerate of y'all if you would simply make a token gesture; even if it were just to say thanks for your money, but we choose not to help you at this time.

    That type of response I could better understand that than no response at all.

    maybe i should have asked nicely... like pretty please with sugar, whipped cream, and a cherry on top.

    Huh!

    Hello, I feel your pain. Just wondering if you are doing a direct write to DVD or just creating a hard drive based image. I am not familiar with the whole process as to which computer does the work. I believe ATI runs an applet supplied by the host, on the target. The applet compiles and compresses on the target drive and then uploads to the host. Is it possible the target machine does not have enough horsepower for all of this? I may have my sequence out of step. Just brainstorming that is all.

    If the target is querried by the host to transfer the data to the host, we might have somethign different. If the host is compiling and compressing data streamed from the target, and at the same time burning to DVD, we might have a run on sentence. Its possible the data stream is not fast enough and creating a buffer overrun problem, causing the disk to fail.

    These are just thoughts.

    Hey doyling thanks so much for a reply.

    I am not certain how to go about troubleshooting with your thoughts in mind. have any advice?

    here is some additional info:

    I have four pc’s on my home network. PC1, PC2, and PC3 are direct wired through my d-link router and PC4 is a wireless connection (which is not a part of this conversation although the same problems persist).

    Connected to PC 1 are 2 external segate ide 400 Gb hard drives (USB 2.0). btw, pc1 specs follow below. I use one to backup data files and one to back up system file for my four pc’s which I then store at my off site office.

    ATI home and winxp pro sp2 are installed on all pc’s.

    I initially attempted to create and save my images to those external drives through the lan only to receive the ATI error E00070004: Failed to write data to the archive file. I then attempted to write to the internal drives on PC 1. I have two sata and one ide and no arrays. I received similar error codes.

    I can connect the two external drives directly to each of the four pc and make successful images for each pc for which those drives are connected.

    The three desktop pc’s all have internal drives to which I can successfully create images.

    I have not attempted to create an image to dvd, either directly or through the lan.

    Hello markkal123,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    We are sorry for the delayed response.

    First of all, please make sure you use the latest build (4940) of Acronis True Image 10.0 Home. To get access to updates you should first register your software.

    If the issue persists, please download the latest version of Acronis drivers, unpack the archive, install unpacked MSI package and try to create a new backup.

    If the issue still persists, please do the following to provide us with additional information, which would let us to investigate the issue and to provide you with a possible solution:

    - Replace C:\WINDOWS\system32\snapapi.dll with the one from the downloaded SnapAPI archive;

    - Reproduce the issue and collect the log file;

    - Get the log file without closing any application windows (including the error message windows if there are any). The log file will be created at C:\ . The name of the log file will be snapapi [date-time].log

    Please also collect the log file from Acronis True Image 10.0 Home that contains the error message. In order to do so please do the following:

    - run the program;

    - select Show log on the toolbar or from the Tools menu;

    - select the log with error messages;

    - click "Save the log entry to file" (the diskette icon)

    Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

    Thank you.
