Which antivirus is better on spyware/trojan detection and removal?

Also do the free versions of Avast and Antivir have a reduced ability in this area?

 

Recent tests on detection would suggest AntiVir Premium.

I know that the free version of AntiVir does not have the spyware capabilities of the paid version.

if fortinet gets anything more than a STANDARD this time around, i will be surprised.

false positives overload, people who think dr.web are bad, you aint seen nothing yet. *lol*

 

that's still only a detection rate test, not cleaning (these are a bit hard to find if they exist). AVs don't remove everything a malware puts (registry, files - mostly benign and sometimes other files are left behind becasue they pose no threat without the main file). e.g trojan that changes policies: disable task manager, run, folder options, regedit... the trojan will be removed but the values aren't restored.

If you want a 100% clean, nothing left, system, after an infection then you either do it manually (you can find description for malware on the web and browse the registry with programs, search for the files) or reinstall windows.

 

or use a backup/image tool, like e.g. acronis trueimage.
