Have server with Windows 2000 Server. Old. 3-drive u160 scsi raid via Adaptec 3000S (~54GB's), Intel STL2 w/2 P3-1GHz cpus. Maybe not current, but a great school platform.

Looking for suggestions for possible firewall sw if I take my server and LAN to broadband behind a router. Know router will do NAT and SPI. Still think FW might be a good idea.

I do have Kerio v2.1.5. Is this FW package good enough for a "server?" Have used it on a workstation PC and found Kerio to be very easy to setup, comprehend, and live with day to day.

Have previous experience with ZA, Sygate, and CA-Etrust, but only on a workstation.
    Thank you for your opinions.
    Best,
    Duncan

Outpost works fine on 2003. If i remember correctly i believe jetico v1 works as well.

    FarmerLee,
I do not use W2K3 Server. I have previous W2K Server.
Have priced the 5-client version of W2K3 Server, and, until I hit the local lotteries, I'll be hoping this OS stays healthy for some time to come! LOL!
I will go check out your rec of jetco v1. Not familiar with it at all.
    Thanks.
    Best,
    Duncan

ZA and Sunbelt Kerio Personal firewalls are not compatible on server OS such as Win 2000 Server. They are designed only for desktop OS. If you want firewalls for server OS, do check out what enterprise products their companies, Check Point Software(ZL's parent company) and Kerio, offer.

LOL, sorry i mis-read your post. I believe outpost and jetico would work on server 2000 as well. But i'd say for basic protection kerio 2.1.5 will do the trick, its stable, its light and does its job well. If you want more security then ssm combined with kerio is a great combo.

    Thankyou Unhappy_viewer,
Yes, you do understand my question. I do/did like KPF215 when I used it on my workstations (PC's) on W2K. I may still use it again on my LAN clients. Just because I have experience with it, and, never got polluted while behind it (and a NAT router!). Hmm.
I do know that Kerio is long gone. Too bad. And why I've never tried to put it on W2KServer. (Well, I did think about it!!) I will take your links and go look further. Untill I find a good FW for my server, there will be no broadband at this "20." (Darn!) I do miss quick business...... :D
Thank you very much. We see things similar.

There's always Comodo . Runs on all 32b versions of Win 2K, 2K3, and XP. It's free for personal use and imho, one of the best. :thumb:
