While I am thankful that Thankful was thoughtful with the gratuitous link.....

I have to agree with you, Alwill. I noticed that the 900+ "rankings" through MG weren't exactly over-enthusiastic about this version/release. I wonder if the fact that many users were having to go to a "third party" to obtain what should have already released by Eset by now through the program itself had something to do with those rather surprisingly low marks.....:ouch:

The ranking of NOD32 by the users of MajorGeeks.com does not refer to this version in particular. The ranking has been calculated over a period of at least three years and has nothing to do with obtaining this version from a source other than Eset.
I posted the link after I downloaded and installed the version and made sure everything was O.K.

    convert trial to license

The latest trial version is also available here
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_nod32/
    1) Is it posiible to uninstall the present 2.70.23>install this trial version>use the present license to convert it to a licensed version
    2) Will there be an update shortly at the official site?
    3) How come third party site have updates even before the official site?

I have no clue what you're talking about, NOD32 2.70.31 eval version was put on the download servers on Feb 6. There's no chance any 3-rd party site would have got it from ESET before it was officially unveiled. Basicly there's no need to update to it unless you need to terminate update download on a regular basis :)

    Hey Marcos,

I understand there's no basic technical need to update, but hey, you know how we version number junkies are :D

We need the latest and greatest as a routinely fix, otherwise we just get unhappy...

What the wonder is about: it seems that so far 2.70.31 in English has been released as a trial version, not as a standalone subscription version.

That's because version 2.70.31 fixes a minor issue that might occur under very specific circumstances with the trial version only. The full version is literally the same as any previous version 2.70.x

Earlier also with a dateline of Jan 10, 2007 in the Latest Newws section version 2.70.26 was released in some languages with information that English and French versions were 'FORTHCOMING'.
Nothing has come forth to my knowledge.
My view is that if there is any change, minor or major, it should be available to ONE AND ALL.

OK, so if the Japanese translator makes a minor change in the text and we make newer installers 2.70.32, we should also update the English version though it'd be actually completely same? o_O

So long as the change pertains to text etc of a translation, its NO, but any changes in program/components etc which improves/changes any funtionality-obviously YES

That's also our philosophy and we release component updates if they bring new features, improvements or fixes for severe bugs.

    THAT's the very reason for liking NOD32 so much. :) :) :D :) :)
I , however, feel that to avoid confusion, the details of the changes should be posted in an ANNOUNCEMENT category in the forum with the link to the update and it should be left to the choice of the user whether he needs the same or not.

Did you ever stop to think that releasing a new English version just because the Japanese (or some other) version had a textual change is not exactly a cost free exercise? I think even the "number junkies" can think of places they would rather see Eset spend its money.
