NAT router...but Linux is running it...and it also checks traffic via transparent proxy for viruses/worms/spam/exploits.

 

Online Armor firewall here...

 

Sticking with Outpost. Used McAfee and ZA in the past.

 

For me:
1.-Jetico
2.-Comodo

and no one more!

 

I use GhostWall with a fix for the Ports 0 & 1 "Omission".
This is a great light weight but extremely "High Performance" firewall... It simply doesn't slow me down!

So you have two inbound protection layers and zero outbound protection?

 

As of today, Microsoft Live OneCare Firewall.

 

Uninstall Microsoft Live OneCare Firewall, enable XP firewall.

 

I was using ZA 7 but dropped that due to horrible slow downs. Now trying out private firewall 5, far better performance than ZA.

I use L'n'S on my personal laptop as its a super lightweight firewall.

As of 1/27/07, the Windows XP firewall with AVG Anti-Malware 7.5.

 

Originally: Norton. Verdict: lousy resource hog.
Next: ZA Free. Verdict: Great as far as ease-of-use/setup; horrible w/apps that require multiple connections (uTorrent, etc.).
Next: Sygate Free. Verdict: It seems to forget that I'm the one pushing the buttons.
After this post: installing Comodo.

Transitioned over fully now to COMODO 2.4 from Kerio 2.15

 

Running a 6100 westel modem that has a router built in. When I run windows..I use Kerio 2.1.5 to monitor outgoing programs . I hardly ever run windows anymore. I run linux 90% of the time.

 

Kerio 2.1.5. Have used it for years and haven't seen any reason to switch.

Yes . What can attack me from inside when I know what I install,save + I have perfect antivirus to eliminate unwanted malicious traffic . I have tried two-way firewalls but have never used them on my computer . Only incoming protection , that is all a computer needs , in my opinion

 

You're not concerned about windows components and "legitimate" software calling home or wasting your bandwidth? Those rank towards the top of my reasons for using a software firewall. I want that control over where and how apps are allowed to connect out. IMO, it's equally as important as inbound control, especially with windows components.

I guess you believe all software companies have ethics of absolute perfection.
Here is a recipe. Take a product, add 130,000 lines of codes mix in 2000 programmers and there you have a recipe for back doors and hidden code from not so honest types...

There are way to many programs calling home and reporting stuff in encrypted format or in a hidden state for my own taste. I cant trust most of them to be entirely benevolent... (That definitely includes Microsoft) most certainly since the NSA had so much to say in how Vista operates internally. Now I'm really scared!!!

 

Fully configurable Sygate PFW is the best firewall, IMO.

I used almost all of the popular applications, but there is no program to compete Sygate. No hooking, detailed configuration, no resources, dll watching, detailed logs. Everything I need is included with this excellen firewall.

Unless I shift to Vista, I will never never never give up Sygate!
