ejr: read the getting started and FAQ.
They're very good, but you must read almost everything. It's really easy, if you don't use the SandboxieIni. That's one step ahead, but you don't really need that to start.

It wasn't hard to use. I think the problem I was having was because I didn't realize that you can only "force" programs to open in the sanbox with the paid version.

What advantages do you get in the registered version?

Microsofts Port Reporter tool and Parser tool are not bad freebies.
PR-Parser is the tool that parses the logs that the Port Reporter service generates.

UBCD4Win. It's more like a virtual pc toolbox on a cd. Check out its list of tools and utilities:

    http://www.ubcd4win.com/contents.htm

You do have to build it, but it's well worth the effort.

Re: What's your favourite FREE security software?

hello pcalvert. I tried version 4.5.594.000. It was under 10MB of memory in task manager, and ran smoother than 6.1.744.001 and the last two new versions. I may even uninstall my AVG Firewall in my Internet Security Suite and try it again because of how well it ran. It isn't recognized by Windows Security Center if that's a big deal to you. (It was to me but now I'm reconsidering it) It doesn't have Antivirus Monitoring either, but the newer versions that do never monitored many of the AV's out there anyway, and I actually liked that it didn't have it. Last it seemed to have better alerts than any of the newer versions too, and is why I am thinking about installing it again. I did use the /clean uninstall method that can be found in the Zone Alarm Forum, and it uninstalled fine.

Did you mean AVZ or AVG? There are AntiViral tools called by both names.

I can't believe no one named the one application I could never be without:

The Proxomitron with Sidki's superb configs

I won't even consider using Ubuntu on my Virtual machine until I learn how to get Proxo to work on it.

Re: What's your favourite FREE security software?

Version 5 and above added the Windows Security Center interface. I think the Antivirus monitoring was an unnecessary add-on. If you can't determine that the AV program is out of date yourself, then why depend on the firewall program to do that for you? The option stops after one year unless you switch to the paid version so I was glad it turned off anyway.

BTW, my signature line lists the free programs that I use. My favorite free program is Vundofix. Ran it for one second and the trojan was gone. :thumb:
