Any particular reason it's so expensive other than it seems to rock in protection? I understand a 'commercial' product being $100 but the personal version is that price. I could actually afford it when Nod32 expires if it was like $50 :/

One might suggest the non-pro edition but I'm its the in-the-wild virii that scare me most. it sounds as though the pro edition has the latest technology against them. correct me if I'm wrong.

anyways, has KAV ever had a decent pricing special? and it appears renewing the virus signatures is at best 20% off the retail price of a new purchase. that's weak too.. :(

any input on KAV personal pro appreciated since i'm on the topic

The Pro-Version of KAV is IMHO way to expensive for normal home users. The differences compared to the Personal version (which is half of the price of the Pro version) are only to additional tools: OfficeGuard and Inspector.

OfficeGuard is an additional protection to Microsoft Office in case of usage of Macros. Only if you work a lot with macros and therefore switched off the security feature in Office OfficeGuard might be a benefit against macro based viruses.

Normal home users switch better the macro security level to high and ensure that all latest Offices patches are applied. This is generally the safer & cheaper method.

What's left then is the Inspector which is an 'Integrity checker' which is okay but not really necessary. Also for the additional price of 50 Euro you it might be better to buy just a seperat product, e.g. ADinf is around 20 Dollar.

Wizard is right, but let me point out some two more important features of Pro version which are worth of that money:

    1. It supports integration with TheBat (mail is checked on the fly).
    2. Pro can scan network drives. This means you can scan all your home PC computers if you have Pro version installed on one of them.

    Sincerely,

    Igor [KL]

thx for the replies all. I probably should have mentioned I use TDS which happened to catch something that Nod32 missed recently, Nod32 Adv heuristics did catch it as an unknown virus though.

I could definitely live without the MS office protection and the integrity checker.. However, with 3 computers networked here and me only willing to buy one A/V solution I'm definitely going to need the network scanning of pro.

crazykidjoe: can you post your e-mail address as I missed the contact you recommended. you can try me at az-hummerX@hot-mail.com without the two dashes and the X.

    Thanks

Ok Hummer, here is what you do. Go to the Kaspersky site (www.kaspersky.com).
To get the Professional version for $80 dollars rather than $100, choose "Buy the Personal version". When you do this, it offers you a special 20% discount if you buy the Professional version.

The same is true for the personal version. If you want to get this for only $40 dollars rather than $50, all you have to do is first select "Buy the lite version". After you do this, it will also offer you a 20% discount to buy the personal version for cheaper.

A little trick I found when I was visiting their site. See ya later.

According to your own product description for Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal, it too can be used to scan network drives:

There is an error on our site. Will be corrected soon.
    Only Pro scans network drives.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Guys I tried KAV but it slow down my machine and even if I trie to open start menu it freezing for moments.
I tried and lite and personal and pro version.

Is there any trick to solve that problem??

Also when I tried to open compresed .EXE file which contain 5-6 diferent viruses KAV did not protect me and it started to play PIG sound and say unable to clean and unable to delete . All was on default. Than I was so mad I tried manual scan but was same.
Than panda online scan fixed problems. It make me scared to leave KAV for my main scanner.

At first, KAV slowed the startup of my machine, but it has improved. You can set the resident monitor to scan just all infectible files if you want. KAV requires some configuration; not sure why it can't get rid of your viruses. Try enabling "delete or rename infected archives" in the options section. Maybe someone else can help. Good luck.

I am sure there is plenty of information about how to set up KAV on this forum. I also recommend you to visit this URL
    for more information.
