Taking low watermark's advise for a layered defence, to compliment NAV, i looked into Bo Clean, TDS, and Trogan Hunter. I chose TDS.
Im trying the demo starting today. Just ran my first scan and WOW, im really impressed! Looks like another satisfied customer. Dont fully understand all the tweaks, but im going to read the posts here (TDS) and that will help. If you have any suggestions for a newbie to TDS, they would be appreciated.
Picked up 1 alarm. Leak Test. But thats to be expected. Not really a Trojan.

Hello & welcome Enigma, TDS3 is a very powerful tool in the fight against Trojan.
Try this for some of the basics: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=2871

Don't forget to try WormGuard & Port Explorer to augment your defences :) + the many other free tools available on the DCS site.

    Well, a progress report.
After going through the basic set-up that Pilli gave the link to, i ran a scan and it only picked up Leak test, dsostop2, and 3 restore. I believe restore is my retore points ive created in XP. If it could be something else please let me know and i will give a complete description.
Many thanks to all who helped me!!!!!

    Hi Pilli,
Tried Config.-Options. Turned up the volume on my box and at speach syn. Hit the button but nothing. Checked the basic set-up again and it is set-up just as the directions say. If im missing a componet on this new box that i should have got..........well it aint gonna be pretty :D
Okay, you've tweaked my interest. How do i get it to talk to me?
1 more thing. Config. e-mail set-up: not my address. Its admin@localhost. Not sure about that. Maybe because its The basic version?

    Hello Enigma,
can the suggestions in this thread help you for getting the speech synthesis to work on an XP system? Make sure if you want to work with it you collect on the msagent download page all the TTS engines in languages you understand including the voice recognition machine and the SAPI4 runtimes. All is in the thread i posted above.
Let us hear how it goes!

The email you can configutre at wish and make sure you have the proper SMTP address there. Test will tell you if all went ok.

Enigma, If you follow the instructions given by Jooske, I am sure you will soon have a talking TDS3 :)
It is all part of TDS3's added capabilities & is very instructive in many ways. Lots to learn but very satisfying :D

Ill need some time to understand what im reading. A couple of the links (dont remember which ones) i had to log in. Their dated March 2002. But i wasnt registered at that time, therefore i couldnt get in. I will let you know as i start to study the posts and links.
I want to say thanks to Mr. Blaze, Jooske, and Pilli for your giudence and posts on this subject. It is greatly appreciated!!

Login where? I sent you just to the www.microsoft.com/msagent site to get all the downloads for the TTS engines and the voice recognition software (NOT the msagent exe core part as XP has their own version of that included!) and the msagent characters and the SAPI4 runtimes and speech control panel..
    Nothing to login there.
Then in the control panel go to the speech panel and temporary from there disable the SAPI5 speech engine which ships with XP so the SAPI4 can do it's job.
    Nothing to login there either.
So i wonder which links you were trying for what?

For the DCS forum and Private registered users only forum you'll have to login after register as a forum member at DCS.
Hope to help you into the speaking part:
    Main thing on XP
get the SAPI4 runtimes at www.microsoft.com/msagent
get all the other parts (text-to-speech engines, voice recognition engine, msagent characters, speech control panel, but not the msagent.exe core file although you mgiht need the other language core files if you take other languages too, not sure, have to try that out if i find an XP user around)
there are msagent characters on your XP cd-rom, btw. Make also sure you have the real Merlin (with speech included) besides the MSOffice (and maybe comes with XP?) Wizard (looks the same, has no speech elements included) to avoid frustrations.
In my public TDS scripts i use most of time the Genie, btw.
OK, you had those downloads, installed them default, you might need to run in the TDS directory the spchapi.exe which comes with TDS (from the TDS d/l site, the scripts and speech elements) to connect the speech engines with TDS.
In XP you'll need to temporary disable the SAPI5 via the control panel to enable SAPI4 to work.
Now if you type something in the bottom of TDS like
    speak "Hello to myself!" <enter>
    it should speak your message.
If this all functions right, look in the scripts (you need to unzip /install that which will go default in your TDS directory) in a folder UserSubmitted\Jooske\InnerPeace.ss3
Via TDS > SS3 > Load script > go to that InnerPeace script and click it.
It should popup the Genie with a story if all goes well.
Please tell us if all worked and if not where it went wrong so it's easier for us to locate an eventual problem!
If the script caused a sudden run to the nearest supermarket we know it was another kind of problem, the script working too well!

Oops! thought i gave almost a step-by-step instruction?
    Where does it go wrong?

BTW: how's the rest of TDS for you relating to configuration, updating (daily from the site) scanning, maybe other tools you tried by now to look at?

If you would type in the bottom of the console Speak "hello!" and you hear something (boxes volume up of course) you know you did well for that speech part.
Print the instructions out, use your marker for what has been accomplished already or write what was wrong/misunderstood so we can help you further from there --
no, we can't register you all voice commanded (we can, but that script isn't written yet :) imagine the risks if you are in the process and sneeze it out, Genie with his friendly voice asking if you want the whole Action packet with that? and reacting "bles you!")

    Hi Jooske,
Yes you are very through with the step by step instructions. Im just a little gun shy about doing it :) Im at the office and i have alot of stuff going on . Please be patient and i will get back to you when i get home. I will have more time to digest your instructions at that time :)
    Thank you.

We're all very patient here and happily awaiting your next steps.
Remember: TDS can bring so much fun with security which will reflect in your work.
Certainly with TDS singing and telling nice things and a Genie dancing on your screen, while he tells you the time and all voice commanded sends away your email and can help you with lot of other stuff your working environment will love to see happening!
Don't be shy, the computer doesn't bite, and in the meantime as long you're updating and scanning you know exactly what's going on on your system, being safe to the computer's bottom!
You might like either to print out the pages/instructions or email them to your computer at home so you just only need to click on the links!

Hello Dithean and welcome to the forum!
TDS is very impressive, true, and we learn to work with it for our saystem's defence and lots more! It adds so much to our education if we want, recognizing and dealing with trojans and lots of other nasties and intruders, not to forget to our good humor!
TDS makes security so much fun again!
