Which Anti-Trojan software is the best?

I don't know much about computers, but are Anti-Trojan software different from Anti-Virus software? Which is the best without using up a lot of memory and is preferably free?

 

If you are looking for a real dedicated AT software, I'm afraid you wont find any free. I would say the best AT is BoClean. If you really want something free, then go with Ewido (AVG now)

BoClean is easy to use and it doesn't use much memory. You set it and forget it. And service in case you would have problem, which I doubt, is top notch.

I trust BoClean when it comes to a/t defence.Layer your security with diff programs from diff companys.All in ones are not as secure.A jack of all trades vs a pro at each as in a/v,a/t,a/s,firewall etc...give me the pro at each.If I can break one program of an all in one then chances are I can break the other all in one programs of that set up.

 

exactly .. I'm using it together with A2 .. solely because of it's IDS .. but I can understand that Ewido has it's fair number of fans .. it's a fantastic program too .. it's a matter of personal taste imho

I do not think that I have seen a comparison test between BoClean and others. Are there such tests? I have seen comparison tests of ATs, but BoClean was not included.

Because it lacks a suitable on-demand scanner.
AVG Antispyware and SUPERAntiSpyware are 2 "tried and true" antimalware scanners.

 

I see that as an inconvenient, but not a real obstacle... Just run the Trojans!
Like testing Prevx1, it doesn't detect something, but at least wait to see if it updates correctly...
Even if not concluding anything with that (do whatever you want), at least inform us of what happened after

All the positive posts from the BoClean freaks has made me curious about this proggie; can't trial it however. Company is working with money back guarantee. Have no good experience with this.

I'm a Kasperskynaut. Kaspersky is (also) very effective in the anti-trojan department.

Would BoClean add something to KAV (in the AT department that is) ?

I guess I have answered myself (post #12). And yes I know........it is a test from some time ago.

 

It would seem that lacking an on-demand scanner would be a real negative. If good AVs catch more trojans, then what good is an application that does not have the scanner if it does not catch the trojan first?
The fact that one has never had a trojan infect the machine is not a great proof of its effectiveness.

I am not trying to put down BoClean, but have to wonder how one decides on which one is best when there are few good tests, and no infections with any of them?
I always carry a pocket knife when in the outdoors. I have never been bitten by a snake. Does it follow that carrying a knife keeps snakes from biting me?

BOClean imo is the best AT out there.

I have always taken the position that you need dedicted AT on top of AV. However, if funds are in short supply. I believe a KAV is your best choice for AV and AT protection in one package. My position on this has not changed. If money is no object KAV and BOClean would be rock solid. It is my understanding that they work very nicely together.

The link to the German word for "fake security" is dated and testing an older version. While I consider it a good read it changes nothing as to my high opinion of BOClean. I have seen it before.

BOClean=TrojanDefense.

Are you confusing an on demand scanner, with a real time in memory scanner ? BOClean by design, to keep it very light in operation, as indeed it is, was not built with a full on demand scan feature. But it does have a single file on demand capability, by dragging any file into its GUI.

The most important aspect of any anti anything, is it's effectiveness, or not, of jumping on any nasty that it detects in memory or attempting to run, and killing it fast. This BOClean does without blinking.

That scheinsicherheit review is three years old, and was on a previous version 4.11.01. As far as i'm aware, the points raised have been addressed in the latest version. Note all the positive things said and listed about even the previous version.

Hi: you have asked 2 very good questions, I will give you my opinion which is not the same as facts. You have heard a lot of opinion and the more you read the more confusing it gets:

1) Yes, ASW is different from AV software. Although recently the treatment for them is merging. What I mean is some firms are now scanning for both at the same time!

2) There is no free lunch on resource use, if you want a tool to do anything it will take CPU cycles and RAM and HD space.

3) Best? What do you mean? None find them all, never will, this months leader will be followed by another next month. Find a good one and stick with it, frequent updating is IMHO a good thing since it proves there is a support group active somewhere.

4) get a In/Out firewall
5) get an AV tool, get trial versions and see how you like them, AntiVir and BitDefender V8 are free.
6) for ASW, KAV, SS are both good, not free though so try the other ideas here in the other posts.
