Backing up Files

I want to purchase a new computer, however, have paid in advance (2 year subscriptions) for firewall and antivirus protection. Can someone tell me if there is a way or a program to copy files to cd to re-install on my new computer? thank you

 

Without having the installer of the programs, you can't just copy the files from 1 system to another without 3rd-party software. If you have the email or box the AV/FW came in, then you should still have the licenses.

Keep in mind, if you only paid for a single computer license, you can't put it on both systems legally. You would have to uninstall the old computer's AV/FW first. Might I ask what AV/FW you are using? That will make it easier to to guide you on where to get the installers from.

make sure you backup the installers and the license keys to the cd.

burning to DVD would be a better solution if you can swing it
but spanning CDs can be done or a 2nd HDD

an alternative to Ghost is Acronis True Image
I still use Ghost though for cloning, casting and backups
the flexibility it offers with advanced switches is more important to me than the latest "in the OS" backup craze (Which was Acronis's main sales point but also can be seen in Ghost these days if slightly different)

If your going to simply do a clone of a HDD as a backup strategy (to a 2nd HDD) there is alot more freeware available

 

Capp..I have Norton Antivirus - which still has 362 days left. And Outpost Firewall - which still has 304 days. Both are programs I bought online and I have the keys for both of them. Not sure where I would find the "installer". Is it on my computer somewhere? I am not putting them on 2 computers...just want to put them on the new one. I have emailed several times to both sources but have not gotten any replies. The only other things I wish to transfer to the new computer is my Outlook Express address book, my music stored on the computer and my list of favorites from Opera if this is possible. I heard about a cable you can connect from one machine to the other but have no idea what it is called. Thank you for any help you can give me.
