Looking for an easy firewall to try out before buing one. I have one major problem. A lot of them seem to want Internet Explorer.
I am running the equivalent on 98Lite, and IE has been totally disabled, and I won't reinstall it. Anyone know of a simple one to start with? And ZA is out. It does need IE. I'm also on dialup
    Thanks

I would recommend Looknstop. It provides stealth protection and also gives you the opportunity to change the rules. I'm using Tiny atm and love it, but there is a learning curve..Good luck..c

Just wondering if you have contacted LitePC for support to see if they know which firewalls would work ok without IE. If you have 98Lite Pro you should be able to get support (at least according to the site).

I don't recall anyone mentioning removing IE and what firewalls they can or cannot use. Perhaps the next easy firewall is Sygate and there's a free version. Don't know if you would run into the same issue, though. I'm not familiar with Look n Stop although it's said to be a very good firewall and they do have a support forum here at the Wilders.

On my 98 box (which I have not yet used 98lite on) I disabled NetBIOS over TCP per grc.com and have no running services so all my ports are closed. (Not stealth, of course.) I have ZA but don't always use it. That's an alternative as long as you're not running services or have a need for NetBIOS over TCP.

I don't have their version. The tech that does my computer knew how to get rid of IE. Plus the computer is custom and I'm never sure what will happen with some security programs. I installed one version of Norton AV and it decided that the graphics card and wacom tablet were virii and killed them. (old drivers). I have a few older programs on 98 which can't be updated as the companies have gone out of business or merged. Plus some programs that are very specialized. So I read everything and double check before I make a decision.
I'll look over on the 98 Lite site and see if they have any hints. Thanks :doubt:
