I agree that Prevx1 uses plenty of ram, but I don't think the amount of ram useage is an issue, the real issue would be slowdown. Of which I get none with Prevx1.

I've used HIPS that have no whitelist and for me the problem was always when installing an application. If I had to "make sure" of everything the installation was putting on my pc then I'd be sat doing searches on Google for hours on end. Not my preference to be sure. Most of the time(and i'm sure this applies to other "None whitelist" HIPS users) I had to disable or shut down the HIPS when installing something new as I knew i'd get frustrated at the number of popups. The other thing is that even after Googling I ended up saying "Well I can't be sure but as i'm installing something new then it must be part of the installation and is ok, so i'll allow it". Yet in the back of my mind always this thought of what if it wasn't related to the installation and was trying to get in on the back of my installation. Have I just allowed malware to install?

I like the concept of Prevx1, in that it knows a lot of good and bad stuff. It doesn't bother me about the known good stuff, it stops the bad stuff and it alerts me to the 'unknowns'. I'm happy with it's 'low maintainance'. I install plenty of apps, so using Prevx1 gives me a quiet unassuming 'expert' to analyse and verify everything I run. If I was using a HIPS that has no whitelist then it would be a full time job having to examine and research all the alerts I would get. Prevx1 suites my current profile perfectly.

the point is turning off the hips for installs seems unacceptable.
you have the hips there to prevent malware from installing if you turn it off for installs and you get a dodgy file that you didnt know was dodgy then thats its your infected.
so eiether you keep being prompt about stuff during the install or use a hips with hardly any popups.

I have been using it for a month PREVX1 and I was very impressed by it, binned Counterpoint and bought the family version for four PC's.

I always review all my programs before renewal, this time I did it 4 months early, Counterpoint was a real memory hog.
