Do you use a Registry Cleaner/Tweaker?

Hi, folks: lately I found that these two can be safely used. They are Registry Repair by Glarysoft.com and TweakNow Reg cleaner professional. I have tested them for the period of 10 weeks, never let me down.

At this forum I've heard users complain about CCleaner's registry cleaner, I choose not to use it.

Registry Healer - is very good, it makes a windows 'restore point' by default, plus a backup of the registry. Keep in mind most reg. cleaners, only backup the changes they make, not the full registry. Reg. Healer as a easy & expert mode. The expert mode freaked me out, & I did not do it, as it found like 10,000 errors. This program was strongly recommended to me by my pal 'HollywoodPC.'

RegSeeker - is very good, & used by many with very good results. I still use this, one new feature it offers is, it will find invalid services.

you mean ReagistryHealer - www.FixRegistry.Com?

I've been through the gambit w/ reg cleaners:

Eusing Free
RegCure
RegSeeker
StompSoft
RegDrill
RegCleaner
Too many more to mention.

Either they were too benign too aggressive or just inaccurate. In any case: no "one" reg cleaner will handle all the issues on ones PC. It will take several "well chosen" apps.
After many experiments (failed and successful) I've chosen the following three as my mainstays: I use them in this order.

Tune-Up Utilities 2007 <- Creates Back-Up
J-V 16 2006 <- creates Back-Up
Registry Mechanic <- creates restore point

CCleaner works fine for me.

Ace Utilties also has a good registry cleaner, or u can get teh standalone Registry TuneUp from teh same company.

Why would you need a registry cleaner anyway? I would only want to clean security risks in it, but I don't care for complete uninstalls because the regedit interface is already too bloated to bother cleaning. Hell, a freshly reformatted windows has a bloated registry.

A while ago I came to question the value of a registry cleaner when used as a shotgun tool.

Taken from another discussion offsite:-

Which is a good cleaner in your eyes ? The aggressive one that finds 200 entries or the safer one that finds 50 ?

Of course you have something like Erunt installed for an independent registry back up and you've made sure your registry cleaner has a back-up option as well. Sure you have, so if a problem arises in a fortnight you'll know just why and rollback ? Or will you not relate it to the registry clean - or maybe you've made a few changes since you cleaned the registry and aren't sure that it's worth rolling back ?

On a wholesale clean, back-ups become less useful as each day rolls by. I'm not saying that something you've broken can't be fixed, possibly with a single entry - I am saying that it makes no sense to put yourself in this position in the first place on the basis of 'it seemed like a good idea at the time'.

If you can't look at each entry that the reg. cleaner has identified as problematic and understand why it's saying so ....... then it begins to look as if you're messing. In the hands of the experienced, then the ability of a cleaner to search quickly for entries in a heavily used system has value, because they have the experience to read the sometimes overwhelming amount of data the cleaner presents and work effectively with it. It's a World away from pressing the 'remove all' button and hoping any problem occurs within a time-frame, that makes the back-up worth a damn.

If you have uninstalled a poorly designed program, or removed some malware and want to target the remnants of those installs, then yet again - I see the value. Chances are you will be able to check out the entries you want to remove on forums such as this. Even for a comparative novice like me, using a cleaner like this is something I can understand.

If you have a problem you can't identify and that's causing a chronic system instability...... you've backed up your data and you're one second from reformatting - then fine, what's to lose ? Play about, rollback and try another cleaner until you've gone through them all or hit lucky - in this situation luck can only work for you

So whatever your final choice of cleaner, pressing a button just 'cos' you're worried your registry might be getting full is a I think, a dodgy reason to throw the dice ...... use these tools with restraint and target them ......

Have been using Ace Utilities for years without any problems. Have used a number of others in the past, but found this one to be the most reliable so far.

I am not interested in an older versions....even if its free. Better always go to the latest version, remember this is a registry cleaner (not a vintage cars) and everytime a new version arrives, then I am sure some problems was found on those old version that they've fix.
