Backup-Storage is hard to maintain...

I'm using the "Backup-Speicher" feature (I assume it's called Backup-Storage in English). That was the reason I upgraded to version 10, because I thought that's a cool idea.

However it is very hard to use:
- i have 4 disks with different backup schedules
- my backup disk is limited
- I wish I could specify how much in total should be used on the backup device. TrueType forces me to do the math myself.
- My disk run out of space. I reduced the size of the backup-storage for one of the disks. But TrueType does nothing! If seems to adjust the backup space *after* the backups are done. No way to change it from the UI.

I am very disappointed with that feature....

Before TT10 I used differential backups and manually deleted some versions in between. With backup-storage I'm afraid of manually deleting versions in between.... (Can I do this??)

Create a Backup Location from within Acronis and specify the parameters for that area, (size, max number of backups, number of days to keep backups)

If I understood your other question about deleting correctly: Never delete incremental backup parts. If you lose one (other than the first backup) you will only be able to restore to next contiguous file.

I'm doing differential backups. So deleting intermediate versions should be ok.

My problem is, that when I shrink the size of a backup-storage, it does not shrink until after the next backup. I f I run out of disk space that's not a good strategy, because the next backup fails and therefore the backup-storage never shrinks.

Additionally, I have 4 backup-storage directory. And I wish to specify a maximum size for all 4 of them and not individually.

Hello Michael,

Not sure where you stand with TI 10.0 but there was a problem with TI 9.x when deleting intermediate differentials. Namely, you needed all previous differentials in order to validate the image although you could actually restore using just the Full image plus any one of the remaining previous diffs.

well, I expect that a managed backup-storage should be manageable from the UI and not require messing around with the files....

The wizard based UI is horrible, but that's another story...

I am still using TI9.

In TI10 has the differential verification problem been fixed? That is can you have the base backup and diff1 and diff2, then delete diff1 and still verify from diff2?

Please notice that you can store all your backups in one Backup Location – they won’t mess with each other. This way you can specify a total backup space limit.

Please also note that changing space limit in the Backup Location settings is not a command for Acronis True Image 10.0 Home to check if these limits are exceeded. It checks the limits after creating a new backup. The Backup Location is not a special hidden partition of a hard disk, like Acronis Secure Zone, but rather a folder which is automatically managed by Acronis True Image 10.0 Home. Therefore, it is safe for you to manually delete the old full/differential backups from Backup Location, and that will not affect other full backups and their respective differential ones.

Please also notice that it is not recommended to store backups on the same drive they are made of, as a drive failure will make both the drive and backups inaccessible.
