Feature request: UDF file system support in ATIES&UR@Bootable Rescue Media

    1) It would be nice if Acronis adds a UDF file system support in Acronis True Image (Enterprise Server)@Bootable Rescue Media. Without a UDF file system support, when starting from Bootable Rescue Media, ATI(ES) does not see archive files at DVD media.

    2) When starting ATI(ES) from Bootable Rescue Media, it would also be nice if a user can set some more of the backup options which are availbale at regular Windows version of ATI(ES). For example, archive splitting, options for "media components" (to make bootable media), etc

I didn't read all of the previous post, I'm sorry if the following has already been requested.

Better control over the Secure Zone :
1 - add a functionality "view backed up archive in ASZ" which would display all archives directly (without begining a fake recovery process and choosing ASZ as image location to view it). If I just want to check files in my ASZ, I don't want to choose "Recovery".

2- The current console/window (displaying the ASZ) should allow us to delete individual backups, or check their integrity, without being obliged to check the integrity of all images being in the ASZ, like it is the case currently.

    Better control over Backup Locations
3 - like the ASZ, no filename are required into user defined Backup Locations. In fact, we cannot specify any name. It ends up by having multiple files coming from various different data saved, and having the same filename format : "2006_12_29_12_10_10_xxxF.tib". It would be great to have an option to add a file prefix. If the option is checked, we could specify "firefox" for instance, if we have a scheduled task saving firefox to a defined backup location, which would leads to : "Firefox_2006_12_29_12_10_10_xxxF.tib".

    Task management
4 - Currently, the column "last run time" and "last result" are not remembered over reboots. I have only manual tasks (not executed automatically), and when I run one, the two columns are filled correctly, but after a reboot they are all blanked.

5 - I would like the ability to visually differentiate the listed tasks, for instance by being able to choose an icon among a predefined icon list, or from my HDD.

Task schedule is very good to do the "one-key backup".
I am trying to find a quick way to restore a partition.

I like to see a quick recover for partition on the new version:
I have a notebook with 60GB hard disk.
I put the true image in the partition D and like to restore it once a week.

    A. Sanp restore is good for whole disk not for partition.
The snap restore will overwrite the entire hard disk.
It is almost impossible for one hard disk system (like notebook).
It will take a long time to restore the entire hard disk.

    B. With TI 9 or 10 you can restore the system partition under WinXP. TI will create a batch (or script?) file and ask me to reboot the OS.

    1. Is there a way to save the batch (or script) file?
    2. How to run such a batch file?

    C. Under Norton Ghost, you can run a command line in batch file to do it.

    Simple request:
Fix the CD so I do not need to use the
    "quite acpi=off noapic"
For some reason it still does not work for me and can no longer clone my disk.

Make available for a lap top to be able to load the CD to clone, then remove the CD laptop module bay unit to insert the module bay hard drive unit to clone or back up a disk.

I would like to have the exclusions enable in the image part of the disk.
Many times, i don't need to backup 100s of gigabytes only to have the OS image part of the disk with only a few gigas are important for that image.
Excluding some folder(s) will be a great feature.

More drivers included on the boot CD. I recently purchased one of those IDE/SATA to USB converters (Coolmax CD-350-COMBO) to clone a laptop. ATI v8 boot CD saw the drive, but was not able to clone to it (it went through the motions of cloning, but no cloning actually took place). I then upgraded to ATI v10 thinking that its boot CD had more updated drivers. It didn't even see the drive. I ended up taking the drive out of that laptop and, using the same IDE/SATA to USB converter, imaged the drive using another laptop (under Win XP). Finally, I hooked up the new drive and restored the image onto it.

So yeah, my wish would be for more drivers on the boot CD. I'm not sure if it needs the drivers for the USB converters or SATA devices, but it would've been nice to have just cloned the laptop's drive from the boot CD using that converter without going through the extra steps mentioned above.

I sort of wish I stuck with v8.

Or even a move away from Linux which always seems to lag Windows in the driver department towards an officially supported Bart PE (or similar) boot disk.

In honor of the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, I have a dream:
"To one day be able to make a simple set of backup/restore disks with 'one-click' ease."

The ability to create spanned restoration DVDs/CDs, or ability to a make a complete HDD backup to bootable spanned DVD's/CDs for unattended (other than swapping the disks in simple numerical order) and automatically achieve a full restore. Like the restore disks shipped with a new PC, except ATI would allow you to make updated versions of your original restore disks with all of the stuff you added to the PC since you bought it. No silly need to boot first, have to know how to use ATI and then unintuitively start the restore from the last backup disk first, or rely on third party software like BartPE. PC Manufacturer's have been making simple restore disks for years. When do the rest of us get to make them?

    Please?!?

So next time my parents call with an "oops, you'll never guess what I just did", I can calmly tell them over the phone, "Mom, just turn off the computer, get out the restore disks I made for you last weekend, insert the disk labeled "Restore Disk1', turn on the computer, insert the next disk when the screen asks for it until you get to the last disk, then turn off the computer when directed on the screen, wait a minute and then turn the computer back on." :thumb:

    Please?!?

Acronis has the technology to do this already. With todays large hard drives, maybe create a temporary partition, backup primary partition(s) to temp partition, verify backup image files, burn the image to bootable rewritable DVDs/CDs, verify the burned images, and then put the necessary built-in batch file commands on the first bootable media to make it simple enough for the tech-challenged masses to use sequentially.

Such a Holy Grail is needed (and desired) by many more official/unofficial tech supporters, local PC gurus and average folks, than all the high-tech folks needing to play with the size of their partitions. Surely, such a Holy Grail would be much cheaper than a trip to the local computer store to diagnose the problem of an unintentional/unknown delete of, or corrupted, critical *.dll files.

Take a lesson from Bill, make even more money by selling a product everyone needs, whether they want it or not. Of course continue to placate your high-end users to keep up the product buzz among the lesser masses. *puppy*

More and more drive encryption is being used. Problem is that acronis won't see the encryption and is forced into sector image copy.

When you have a 300GB encrypted drive with 10GB data the image file wil still be about 300GB.

The only way to let this work is let TrueImage regonize the encryption.

Are you planning on adding an Acronis Encryption module in the future or the regonize other drive encryptions?

    Thanx in Advance

P.s this feature is greatly wanted….

    Acronis True Image WISH-LIST ==> Blu-Ray Support!!!

Here's an ideal feature that will help boost Acronis True Image in the IT Market:

1.) Blu-Ray support. The ability to do backup onto Blu-Ray disc.

Why? With CIO's request on all backups to be placed on Blu-Ray Disc in a year's time as part of the Disaster Recovery Policy and Procedure, there's no question ask of it. Just do it.

The thread is quite large, sorry if this has already been requested and I missed it.

    1) Tell the file name and file size of the resulting backup image in the email notification

    2) Option to always delete the associated incrementals and differentials that belong to the older full backup, when a subsequent full backup replaces an older full backup.

I believe Acronis is using quite an old Linux kernel: 2.4. Current full-featured distributions (e.g. Ubuntu) with a newer (2.6) kernel have very good device support.

Which leads to the following wish: use an up to date Linux kernel please!

    Have a more flexible license...

I want to switch to the English version of TrueType, but Acronis requires to buy a new license. I find this extremely annoying!

Why do I want an English version? Because I want to describe my problems here in the forum and I have no idea how "Backup-Speicher", Wiederherstellen etc is called in English.

I didn't read through all the posts here so I'm not sure if this was listed...

In the "Edit Backup Location" dialog window the window is split into two pieces, left side the "Backup Locations" list and on the right a rather wasted space which displays the same basic stuff.

I'd like to suggust when one of the backup locations is clicked on in the left side of the window that the location properties are displayed on the right side pane along with an Apply button. This would make it much easier to go through each backup location and review their settings without having to go back and forth. Will also make it easer to compare each setting for each location.

    Thanks,

I just wish a DOS standalone version which I can use in my existing LAN manager start floppy environment. At the moment, I am using a competitor's product, DriveImage 2002 by PowerQuest, Symantec today. This product worked great for me (and it still does) but because there's no further development from the manufacturer for Microsoft's new NTFS file system version in Vista, I am looking for a replacement product.

The current Acronis TrueImage 10 version seems to work well too (tested inside a VMware 4.5.3 environment) but what if Broadcom, RealTek & Co. introduce new Ethernet NIC chip sets? In the past, I just had to copy the boot floppy and install the suitable PROTOCOL.INI section / FOO.DOS file.

Automatic renaming of image files with keep X number of copies option. Batch file method is lame.

Extract more incremental/or differential backup ( select all/unselect all/select, unselect individuals ) to a directory with date postfix. I have a project that I backup in all days, sometimes I'd like to see which changes are made.

    More options for file restores

    Suggestions:

    In Options--> Files Overwriting mode

    1) User should have option of specifying file rename upon restore

Example: File "somefile.txt" is being restored. File "somefile.txt" already exists in the destination directory. If the "rename" option was invoked then the restored file would automatically be named "somefile.txt.N" - the ".N" (or some other suffix) would indicate to the user that it has been restored by the True Image software.

Now, both the original file and the restored file exist on the user disk. The user can then later decide which file they want to use - delete the ".N" file or delete the original file and rename the ".N" file to the same name as the original.

    2) User should be able to specify "prompt me" or "no prompting" if a file conflict occurs (i.e. the file already exists in the destination directory).

Currently, the True Image product is always in "no prompting" mode and the user doesn't get prompted if a restore file conflict occurs.

When a file conflict occurs and "prompt me" mode is selected the user should get a popup listing the file path and file name and be given 3 choices:

    a) Overwrite the file on disk with the file from the archive
    b) Leave the file on disk alone and don't restore from the archive
    c) Rename the file (as mentioned in item #1 above)

The popup should also allow the user to click a checkbox "Don't prompt again" and from that point on it would be in "no prompting" mode.
