I read an article, which says there is a potential riske to use preview pane in OE. So I just follow its suggestion to disable it (view->layout-> uncheck "show preview pane"). It worked.

However, if I killed oe and reopened it, the preview pane would show up again. Does anyone know how to disable it permanently?

    Regards,

Just use a good AV with real-time email scanning and you won't have any problems by keeping OE's preview pane enabled.

Rmus: Thank you very much. It works.

Ice_Czar: Thunderbird is much more heavier than oe in my machine, although it mightbe safer. But as long as I keep oe up to date, read/write email in plaint text, scan downlaoded attachment, my system should be fine.

    sorry I couldnt resist

I trust third party aps to possesss a less trusted position with the OS (making subversion more difficult) dont use IE OE or WMP, alternatives are much less a target for exploits, less return on investment to the malware authors

and Id mention the cool thunderbird Allow HTML temporary extension (full time plain text with viewing as html one click away)
