I apologize for veering off topic from your OP. I did not intend to as I got started off with the link for the Ashampoo AV you were mentioning.

    Anyhow, sorry about that.

Not what I meant in the slightest, :)

I figure if it gets moved more people will see the other "offers"

I got the Key for 2007 but doesn't work with either Winoptimizer Platinum 3 or 2.So i had to get yet another for version 3. :D

I liked their media player best. It's the media player i ll use for music from now on.It was free anyway, but i didn't know it.

Also their encyption/decryption program is quite easy to use.

Some links though i thikn point to products that don't appear in the site and so the keys won't work. But basically, they overlap with some of the other programs that are available. So it is better to ckeck their website for the name of the program and then use the appropriate link to get the key.

    Great post BTW,Atomic Ed!.Thanks a lot!

I am kind of suspicious because I used $1 to name my price and it accepted that too. Just seemed too good to be real.

Are you sure thats not refering to the defs as the defs on the antivir site look similiar in the fact they start with 6.37. Can anyone confirm if it Is the old engine or just the def file we are looking at? Also are Ashampoo AV users getting the same ammount of updates as Antivir users eg aroun 4-6 a day during week days?

    Cheers

    Jlo

Below is taken form Antivir site today.

Current update virus definition file (VDF) update:
    Mono VDF
    Version: 6.37.00.127
    IVDF
    Version: 6.37.00.131
    IVDF (Unicode)

In fact anyone who is using Anshampoo do you know are the updates incrimental (eg are they small) or are they around 1mb.

If the size of the updates are small then it must be the latest engine as it was only in Antivir V7 that got the incremental updates.

    Will be interested to know.

    Cheers

Ok well I installed it myself and downloaded trial key.

Its definiatly Antvir as it comes up with same alerts Heur/crypt heuristic alert.

Have not tried the incrimental update as it did a big update and there has not been another one since.

One disapointing thing is Heuristics does not seem to work on the Onaccess scanner or e mail scanner, only on a manual scan.

How do I know this, well I have just found a new downloader spamed on the internet (Which I have submitted to the vendors)

I was using Antivir PE free before and Heuristics imediatly popped up with the on access scanner. Now I have downloaded this there is not a peep from on access scanner.

Its a shame really otherwise looks really good value but think I will stick to Antivir.

    Cheers

    Hi Again,

After more evaluation I have found out there is no e mail scanning. (Again I tested this) so at the moment negs are no Heuristics in on Access guard and no e mail scanner.

The good things are it IS incrimental updates and its very quick and easy to get hold of the server (unlike Antivir PE) and you don't get the pop up everytime it updates.

    Cheers

I was told by their support team that email is infact scanned if you set Ashampoo AV to the maximum security level...

I have heard of $0 bids being accepted by Ashampoo as well (for any product, just try it). It is a sort of marketing promotion, but as long as it bodes well for customers...hmm ;)

Just tried it on high scan setting but no it does not scan e mail. I think it means that if you do a scan it will scan you e mail files but DOES not scan incomming mail.

    Cheers

    Ashampoo AV bad reviews

Thought it would be a good thread with the current Ashampoo thread. Especially If Ashampoo is an older version of Antivir, but the bad download.com reviews scares me.

Reviews on sites like download.com are full of BS. Mainly because ppl don't have the slightest clue what they're talking about.

    This was rejected :(

Well since the onguard scanner is not using Heuristics and its not scanning mail off my computer it goes and back with Antivir.

    Good Question... see this http://www.ashampoo.com/whois/

They are good in optical media burning technologies, and involved in the development of the Blu-ray technology (Support role). See this http://www.blu-raydisc.com/general_information/Section-14009/Index.html; they are amongst the big name...

    Regarding e-mail scanning with Ashampoo..
I found that I could not access my POP mail.
Dumped Ashampoo and got e-mail access back.
